I'm pretty sure I got the zippo hand warmer the op started this thread about.

I'm going to fire it up soon. I got to buy fluid for it and it's getting cold enough outside to where it would be nice to have work me.

I got one as well, I've test run it but haven't had to use it. Might be going into Boston for New Years with the girlfriend so there's a good chance she'll be cold so I might get to test it.

You cannot put it out.

If you are done using it and worried about it just set it on something non flammable like a dinner plate or something metal.

That's what I thought.

It's kinda a waste of fuel to fire it up just to test it.

O well maybe I'll take a bike ride or something tonight so I use it a little anyway.

Its negative 6 degrees feels like negative 22 with the windchill.

Put it in a plastic bag.  It consumes all air, and goes off. Saves lots gas.

Use a pair of pliers and remove the burner element. It will go out. The remaining fuel will slowly evaporate over a day or so.

Re the Zippo's, how do you chaps ignite yours? Once mine have fuel in I light them using the gas hob but I do find it a bit hit and miss...

I'm working inside today no need to light up the zippo hand warmer.

Tomorrow maybe

Can the Zippo Handwarmer be safely carried in coats that are flammable? Never used nor owned one myself. Reason why I ask is I wear oilskins most the time now, although just about every coat nowadays is flammable.

Have two oilskin coats now.  ;)

It should be fine as long as it has the lid on. It is also very insulated in the felt bag if you keep it in there so no worries

Yes. There is no flame, just a catalytic burner. And the warmer works best if kept in its pouch. I hang mine from a neck lanyard, in its pouch, onto my chest.  It does a great job of keeping my core body warm, which keeps my hands and feet warm.

I do the same thing. I doubt very much that you will burst into flames using it.  I was concerned about filling something with lighter fluid, ignoring it then sticking it in my clothes too, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it was.
