I hope there's a pressure relief on there somewhere that I'm missing, it sounds bloody dangerous  :ahhh
Rather ingenious though  :tu:

I didn't build it my mad man of a boss did.

there is no relief value.

I never totally close the outlet.

its a bomb waiting to happen.

According to a little bit of Googling, propane tanks (which is what I'm guessing you've got there) of about that size are rated to about 250psi assuming its in good condition. At 17 bar the boiling point of water is 200C.

Now it's been a few years since I did steam at uni and I wasn't really paying much attention then anyway, but that's a big bang with lots of very hot steam and shards of metal flying around.

Quote from: Wikipedia
In the case of water, a BLEVE could occur if a pressurized chamber of water is heated far beyond the standard 100 °C (212 °F). That container, because the boiling water pressurizes it, is capable of holding liquid water at very high temperatures.

If the pressurized vessel, containing liquid at high temperature (which may be room temperature, depending on the substance) ruptures, the pressure which prevents the liquid from boiling is lost. If the rupture is catastrophic, where the vessel is immediately incapable of holding any pressure at all, then there suddenly exists a large mass of liquid which is at very high temperature and very low pressure. This causes the entire volume of liquid to instantaneously boil, which in turn causes an extremely rapid expansion. That expansion is so rapid that it can be classified as an explosion, fully capable of inflicting severe damage on its surroundings.

Imagine, for example, a tank of pressurized liquid water held at 204.4 °C (400 °F). This vessel would normally be pressurized to 1.7 MPa (250 psi) above atmospheric ("gauge") pressure. Were the tank containing the water to split open, there would momentarily exist a volume of liquid water which is

    at atmospheric pressure, and
    204.4 °C (400 °F).

At atmospheric pressure the boiling point of water is 100 °C (212 °F) - liquid water at atmospheric pressure cannot exist at temperatures higher than 100 °C (212 °F). It is obvious, then, that 204.4 °C (400 °F) liquid water at atmospheric pressure must immediately flash to gas causing an explosion.

Please put a pressure relief on or at the very least a pressure gauge. Please. A jet of steam that scalds you when it's getting too hot is much better than an explosion of steam.

I don't know what the laws over there are but in the UK by law all pressure vessels over a certain values (yours is, or could be) have to be inspected regularly to help ensure they're safe.

todays' thoughts

I'm thinking I might drop the little boy from this review.

I don't know where else to look and buying / using a new one would not be fair .

if I just do it only on fat man I will try and use it for all my work and off work projects

I will carry whatever I feel like when I'm off work and grab the st300 as needed.

sorry I lost the little boy and in doing so wreaked my chance and a 2 for 1 topic /review. I didn't plan on what I should do if I lose a tool.

it ain't dead yet. if it turns out it will have a good fade in story to tell
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Well its Monday and I'm back at work.

on break right now from playing electrician.

first I had to find the problem. A faulty outlet. Why is the outlet fouling. Bad wiring so I removed the damage section replaced it and put it all back together.

the wire striper on the can opener has become my preferred tool to strip wires
its way easier than using the pliers cutters. I think. I don't accidentally cut wires im trying to strip when I use it

stripping

putting it all back together nicely.

fat man is a real hard worker. He takes a beating and asks for more .

I'd replace it with a st300 just like it if I was to lose or break it.

I don't see myself replacing it for a long long time.
When the st400 comes out I will lol

lol

really though

you ask them for me. Tell them to send it in a unmarked package so I won't be biased because I Got a free tool from them.

I expect my mailbox will be leatherman free for the near future.

They are busy researching what tool the professional snow shoer needs to tighten his binding's or some Smurf like what tool does the backyard horseshoe player need .

 lol who knows lol

I think that they quit giving a crap what the working man is up to long ago. There would be a civilian mut by now if they did. Lol

i still love my Leatherman tools.
why because they make a good tool.

Give the Backyard horseshoe player a bottle opener and they are all set :D, in reality though it would be really great if they got back to making tools that are worth the effort. I know they aren't universally loved on here, but at least the sidekick/wingman was aimed at a viable market, there is plenty more they can do besides this recent nonsense.

Ha, a bottle opener is a great idea...definitely a necessity for backyard horseshoes :tu:  I love the Wingman/Sidekick myself, but I'm not a fan of all these recent offerings.  I understand they're not aimed at the typical user though.

So here is the real question, is ST300 your most favored MT out of everything you have?

Nope.

my favorite multitool to use would probably be the Swisstool spirit S with the st300 a close second.

my favorite tool out of the one's I owen/owned is a made in USA spyderwrench.

now the tool im wishing I had is a new surge. I think it would be a great edc tool with out the need to add a one hand opening blade.

st300 thought

its a good tool for wet work. Its easy to clean and dry. Its also easy to smack the ice out of.

Fat man had a hard day. He's going to take a bath with some friends some time tonight.
 It deserves it.

He got to go swimming with me today and is now a member of the polar bear club. It got wet dirty and frozen while never letting me down accomplishing every task I needed it to do. Cutting wire, losing and tightening hose clamps , stripping a couple extension cords wires to make one long one, cutting plastic wrap /tape/ serrated knife cut rope, made a hole with the awl into a plastic sled to pull tools along and whatever else I'm forgetting.

 More thoughts

Its good to know I have a st300 on my belt and what I know it can do.

Indestructible is a good word for it.

Like most tools I think I could break it by doing something stupid
:twak: I won't be doing that

I feel he can handle whatever work I can give him  :multi:

it will be interesting to see where this review or whatever I'm doing is going to go now that I know I can trust the st300 as much or more than any other tool I own.
