I'm doing a few odd jobs today. I don't really want to start any projects on a Friday.

so I'm tuning chainsaws , clean the shop and sharpening tools.

I'm gonna be ready for summer when /if it ever gets here.

here is the fat man helping me change blades in my utility knife . I had to do a little trimming to make a new gasket fit in one of the saws and my utility knife was beyond dull.

The Gadget also seen a little use cutting the edges off a few peal and stick floor tiles.

Apparently I was picky this morning when I looked at the floor I put down so I replaced a few tiles with some that were cut better.

the tiles were not easy to cut but it worked just as well as the huge vinyl siding scissors I was using.

you can also see in my last pic that they fit great in the side pocket of my skinith.

what a handy little tool.

Realization

If I had a choice between a st300 or Swisstool for the rest of my life I'd pick the st300

its a stronger tool.

I've broken and bent tools on Swisstools I have yet to bend my st300's doing the same stuff.

I would have never thought I'd say that.

Interesting.  It's funny because Swisstools are seen as one of the best of the best here (I can't say for myself on either tool involved).  The fact that you thought you'd never claim the ST300 to be your preferred MT further confirms that.  You still prefer it even though the Swisstool has all the tools on the outside?  I know that's a big selling point for them, but I guess that's not as important as durability with hard use :tu:

outside accessible features only go so far, at the end we all want a tool that can get the job done.
I personally found myself able to deploy the tool I need quicker on ST300 than SwissTool.

I've had 1x Swisstool and 2x Spirits let me down with bent/broken implements and damaged pliers (the reason I now prefer replaceable cutters on all my MTs). I've never managed to break any of my Leatherman's in similar usage.

Just my experience: Outside accessible is nice, but with practice and familiarity with the tool, you get to know how to get to what you need quickly and I've never found it to be a deal-breaker or much of a hassle.

Of course everyone's mileage may vary  :multi:.

Little boy II helped me put some shelves in a gun safe I use to keep my knife and tools in. It was made to hold rifles its about 5foot high and 4 inches deep. Its gonna work out nice.

little boy put in all the screws holding the 3 shelves I got up so far.

I'm not done yet so he might get a little more work this evening.

the work truck being Leatherman? wait what would in that analogy be a good offroader like the Defender?

In my experience, I would have to agree with this as well :tu:  I've never bent a tool on any MTs I have, but I don't use them heavily either.

I bent the bottle opener/screwdriver on my swisstool pretty bad, but it bent right back without much issue. I also mangled one of the screwdriver blades on my st300 so bad I had to break out my Dremel to re-grind it. So I've had some issues with both companies, however I wasn't using the tools 'properly', either. My own fault.

I'm looking at my rebar right now.

I have been doing a little edc maintenance and I had a thought.

I really prefer the look of the old polished internal blades/drivers compared to the bead blasted tools they use now.

it didn't really bother me with my old blast but they seem to stick out against the shiny rebars handles more to me.

I suppose its cheaper to blast them.

I would pay more for polished tools if it was a option.

highly polished steel is much more rust resistant then bead blasted.

start polishing your tools leatherman. You can make it back on surfing tools if it costs to much.

we wouldn't want to hurt your profit margin.

Today I'm replacing house wrap on a new home we have on display.

I used the fat mans saw to cut a bunch of 1x2s that hold it in place

I like the way a normal butterfly opening leatherman works so you can use the handles in different positions to help use the tools.

its handy and something I miss when I was using a oht at work..

A cool thing happened today.

my boss borrowed Fat Man for a little while .  :multi:

My Boss is 86 it was awesome to watch him use it.
we were putting up a smoke detector and a few pictures got moved around.
I had to get the tools out for him but he used the Phillips and flat drivers the pliers and plane knife blade.

it seemed to work good for him

a little off topic

I gave my boss a micra for Xmas he don't carry it much.

he carries a Vic classic.  :tu:

I wanted to take a pic of it in his hands in use but I think he would think that was a little weird.

I think this thread has long since ceased being a test, and has become a blog.

I'm not complaining,I'm just saying :tu:

I've been thinking the same thing.

I want to keep you all up to date on what I use my st300 for. It proves i use my multitool every day and that the tool can stand the strain of repeated usage.

this is a review on them so I really should compare them to each other tool wise
I'm going to take pics of all the tools side by side. Lam,s awl pics will definitely be part of it. Sorry I'm taking forever. I never carry the little boy and fat man at the same time.

as far as testing. I'd like to test the limits of these tools yet I don't want to break them

it would make for a more exciting review if I did.

i think id have a hard time breaking one but I'm sure i could.

so i just do what i would normally do with my multitool while telling you about what I did to keep track of it.
my version of long term testing.

if you got any task you think would test the functionality of one them please let me know. I don't think cutting bolts until i break it is a good test. All it proves is what not to do with a tool.

I'm also not the sharpest knife in the drawer so I'm surprised this review/test or whatever is still making sort of sense.

i am doing this the best i can now and I'm totally open to any of your ideas to make it better.

I'm sorry if this is reading like a blog. That is not what I wanted:(

I got no problem with how this thread is going Joel.  I'm enjoying reading what you put these tools through.  I don't put mine through anything like what you do for the most part, so it's nice to see them really proving their usefulness and strength.  Keep up the good work bud :tu:
