Christmas toys

Since no one else is likely to get me any tools worth mentioning I decided to make it a Leatherman Christmas when no one was looking. I stopped in to a local gardening center that I know just happens to be a Leatherman dealer, figuring I would grab a Hybrid, and I ended up grabbing a Universal Tool Adaptor as well. I have to say, they are both pretty cool. In fact, the Universal Tool Adaptor is quite a bit better than I thought it was going to be- it works with a whole host of tools, even other brands! It doesn't do much for SOGs as the gear teeth get in the way, but it works well on the SwissTool, Spirit and even the Auto Tool and a couple of cheap multitools. In fact, since it slips over the folded plier head and gets clamped between the handles, it should fit almost any standard type folding multitools.

It's a pretty neat gadget, and although I will post a full review of it later, I thought I'd let everyone know how cool I thought it was.

Somehow I never got around to buying a Universal Tool Adapter. Having never handled one, I always assumed it was somewhat of a contraption; it does look pretty unusual.

But you say it works okay, huh? And don't I remember it also being able to tip down to 90 degrees for more leverage?

Actually, it locks at 45 and 90 degrees for use. It's pretty handy for those tools that don't have bit drivers, which I feel is one of those things every tool should have. The other nice thing is that it works on a variety of tools, so you don;t have to worry about making sure you get the "right" one to go with it.

Well I had the Hybrid out last night while walking the dog and let me tell you I was pretty impressed with the cutters. I managed to slice quite easily through branches up to about half an inch! Of course for the bigger branches I had to use two hands to squeeze the handles but it made a quick, clean cut. And, if you have to cut anything larger, well I imagine that's what the saw is for!

I keep kicking around the Hybrid. I think that it would be a good adition to the hunting gear. I did carry a pruner many years ago and found it great for clearing shooting lanes. however it was soon lost in the woods. Maybe Ill get one of these and give it a shot. Only thing I would so is get rid of the choke tube wrench and get another tool hacked in it.

Do you mean the Hybrid or the Vista? They are two different models, and the Vista is the one aimed at hunters.

Ya the vista. Ya know the one painted green so I can loose it wuicker. Maybe I can get thhe Guys at leatherman to swap out the tools for the yellow one.

Yeah, that's why I don;t care so much for the camoflage and OD green tools, SAKs, knives etc...

Spudley wrote a great article about yellow SAKs for SOSAKOnline a while back.

Neat tip about using the universal adapter with the Spirit. Mine was just kicking around ther drawer, never thought of using it with the Spirit, I will have to get it out now. Thanks Def.

Hi All,

I wrote Leatherman about doing Hunter Orange handles for the Vista as I have the same concerns about laying a green-colored tool down and then trying to find it. If you folks agree, please go to the L'man site and send Marketing an email. They can leave the sheath in camo, but the tool needs to change.

the hybrid sheath is black and not much better in the woods. it might be more likely to convince them to make a yellow handled vista since they already have the handles in that color. I don't think LM does any orange plastic, do they?
