Making a SOG, Leatherman type box sheath.
on: January 26, 2014, 05:56:31 PM
I promised to show how I make these in another thread.

To make this more realistic for members here to do I have assumed only basic tools are available.  I did however use the correct tool for fixing the snap on the front but when you buy these the tool normally comes with them.

First make your leather straight and square on one edge.

next use the measurements on he paper NOT THE ONES ON THE LEATHER i marked that wrong (it was early, i had a hangover).

join the two pieces.  the sak awl is too thick to make the hole trough both pieces and will leave you with too big a hole so make the hole in one piece then mark the hole positions in the other piece, then make the holes. Attach together using the split pins, pliers and alot of swearing.

now attach the little tab using the elastic bands to hold the leather in shape.

Pass the leather strap up the back and attach

now put the multi in a sandwich bag to protect it, wet the leather push everything back into shape and hold with the bands again and allow to dry

Use the scissors or knife to cut a little way down the front on each side.

then use the knife the join the cuts across the front.  finally use the scissors to cut the sides to shape.

next attach the snap, shape the front and your done.

for a smaller multi (pst) change the width from 11cm to 10cm.  this gives you 3.25cm on either side of the bottom piece which needs to stay 3.5cm wide.  providing your leather is not too thick this should give a good fit.
