Newbie help with first SAK mod
on: May 27, 2017, 04:16:54 AM
I've just started my first mod which will hopefully be a Yeoman with wood saw and fine screwdriver on the back.
I have gotten as far as pulling apart a Compact but l'm worried about how many pieces l'll end up with when l pull apart the Swisschamp.
I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a thread/picture of all the layers of a swisschamp laid out in order?
There's no way l will remember how to get the correct order of all the parts.
Cheers
George

Pretty sure pics of one were posted here recently. I'll have a look around.

Not the one I was thinking of but this one should do okay for you.

Note that some of the back tools have been flipped to show the nail nick.

Can I play?
I received this today. It´s sooo cool.

I always disassemble mine layer per layer and take pics of it... kind of a habit i develop... the first ones to come off are on top... the ones at the bottom are the first ones to come on during assembly...

Basically this, for my first disassemblies I removed a layer at a time and took a photo, your way is better but does require a systematic approach to the disassembly as well as some space to lay everything out in.

Not exactly a systematic approach... each layer would have tools, backsprings and maybe backtools... i start with the corkscrew/phillips facing up... laying and sorting the parts on a printer paper or two... I   Take a pic afterwards and put all the parts in a bowl for cleaning... then arrange them afterwards based on the pic...

Thanks to this site and to everyone who provided the above helpful input, I now have my first modded SAK completed.
In the end, it wasn't too bad, but everything is harder on the first go.
Below are some photo's of my finished Yeoman with woodsaw (Yeoman WS, Yeosaw etc.)
The final two pics are comparing it to an Explorer and to an original Yeoman that I have and EDC for many years now.
Cheers
George

NIce job man.  And for a first timer your riveting came out pretty darn good too.

Thanks Simyo.
I was happy with the peening of the pins, however l think that when l step up to modding an Alox  SAK, l"ll go with the screw and threaded post option.

I dont have the skill to not damage the scales and I'm too much of a perfectionist to have the peened pins on display.
Cheers
George
