Sog Toolclip What is the difference?
on: December 23, 2006, 06:01:31 PM
I notice from some pics that the jaws on some of the toolclips are black and some are stainless steel. Are these different models?

I may be wrong, but I am pretty certain the only differences in Tool Clip models were the standard and mini...?

It's probably the same exact tooling and metal, just diffrent production runs (one blacking the jaws)...

I remember seeing a pic here where the tools were slightly diffrent though on some versions...the file had a flat head screwdriver at the end instead of being rounded..

I think that's the Micro Tool Clip you are thinking of.  It has the file and screwdriver end.

I've looked at a lot of ToolClips over the years, both on the internet and in stores, and they've all had the same color scheme. I suspect that one photo you have there with the dark plier jaws Steel Blade is just due to lighting angle. My ToolClip pictures below were taken with a flash, causing the jaw and handle metal to appear more "silvery" colored than they do in person.

Pic #1 is of a Micro ToolClip, not to scale. It is much smaller than the full-sized ToolClip.

Pic #2 is of the "first version" ToolClip.

Pic #3 is of the "second version" ToolClip.

(Notice the differences between the serrated blades, and the short blades, on the two ToolClips?)

I'm guessing the "first version" came along first because they are only stamped PAT. PEND. on the clip, while the "second version" tools are stamped U.S. PAT. #D 338,386

Thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't sure if it was one or two versions as they both had the later tool configuration. I knew someone here would have the answer!
