Keychain Saw
on: January 15, 2014, 08:43:08 PM
This one is new to me, but many are. I snagged a photo and posted the link.  I suspect is was created to help identify saw blade teeth sizes and not specifically for sawing. Hopefully someone has more info.    Standard disclaimer.  Don't know them or recommend them.  Just thought it was interesting enough to document and pass along.

That was my first thought as well. Never seen anything like it before either. :tu:

My first through was a gauge, then my second is that it might not be for a saw- thread gauge?

Winner, winner chicken dinner.  It is a thread gauge.

yadda is right, a thread gauge, probably with a few job specific threads so you can easily tell one from another on the job site BEFORE you ruin the threads.

Nice catch lowtech.  That makes perfect sense.

Clever little tool, but it doesn't look very pocket friendly.   :ahhh

I do have a thread gauge as a foldout tool, like the feeler gauges to set valve lash, so I recognized the look easily.
When working with unusual thread pitches or thread counts, this can be a huge time saver.
Nothing worse than screwing in "that stubborn bolt" into a cast aluminium engine case and finding out you used the wron thread pitch at the third turn... Ask me how I know.
