I know it's frustrating, but just be patient. Did they inform you it was sent out and on the way to you? If so how long ago was that? Sorry your having such a hard time with this.

Look at it this way. At least its not what I went through with CRKT. Over three months of back and forth just to get the right pocket clip.

the last time I called Vic I gave them my cc# to cover the shipping. I sent a 5 with my Vic but they didn't get it. Don't ever send cash is a lesson learned.

they said they were going to expedite my tool.

I doubting that very much .

its probably on there shelf still.

I'm not at all impressed with what I've read so far with Vic warranty.  They seem to take their sweet time for some reason.  I will find out what my friends situation is and follow up. I know her tool arrived but no word on if they can fix it or will replace it.

Well Vic made me happy.

they offered me a repaired swisstool for not having a black oxide spirit.

I gladly accepted it.

I have a new spirit and a swisstool on the way.

there coming FedEx Il let you know when they show.

:)

I'm almost relived. I really didn't want to dislike victorinox. If they wouldn't of made it right I would have never bought another one of there tools.

Ive sent 6 SAKs for servicing.
1 Swisschamp with misaligned Corkscrew
2 Compact with very bad backsrpings (I asked them to not replace as this has sentimental value)
2 Scientist with foggy magnifying glass
1 Climber with broken knife tip lose scale and broken scissor springs

After 3 months of waiting:
Swisschamp was somewhat repaired
1 Compact was replaced (with a note saying it was beyond repair)
1 Compact was repaired, scale replaced and sharpened (I wished they left my old scale)
2 Scientist was replaced (using the new transparent magnifying lens, i prefer the old one)
1 Climber was replaced

I don't need new SAKs as I still have a bunch of them still in boxes, but I'm happy on how they handle service. I would be very careful next time of what I send for repair as it is sometimes more economical for them to replace a SAK than to repair them.

Cheers

if you ask me, you lucked out.  you went from one BO spirit with a bad phillips, to one BO spirit with a bad phillips AND a new SS spirit.  seems fair, though I do understand the desire to fix the phillips.

You could make it marlin spike... Other thing, you could send it to me, and we could see how good Finnish warranty really is...

Well I voided the warranty on my black spirit s.

I just did a very nice job of grinding down the damage on the Phillips driver.

you would never tell it was broken.

the only way it could have been reground better was if Vic would have done it in the first place like I was hoping for.

Good job!  :tu: This looks like new to me. Did you regrind all sides as well as the tip? Or did you have to grind the 'grooves' of the head, too?

just the sides and the tip.

I did have to touch up the grooves a bit to get it smooth.

Not really an experience, but rather a question.

If I send a couple of old knives in to Vic, will they charge me a fiver for each one, or just five per shipment? For reference, one has a weird discoloration on the blade and the other two have backspring issues.

@JAfromMN,  nice fix on the BO Spirit.  I guess after it's all said and done you got a new SS Spirit for $5 which is not a bad deal.  I'm glad you got your BO fixed so whacha gonna do with the new tool?

Follow up on my roommates Warranty experience.  Item had been shipped yesterday and it will be a new tool along with the tool she sent.  I don't understand why Vic send the broken one back but I like it.  They must have some way of documenting it as one with less than honorable intentions could send it back in to get another new tool.  I think the waiting time is a bit long but cudos to Vics Warranty for standing behind their product.

She did bug the crap out of them based on this thread.  She knew the wait time for some was long so once she saw Vic received her tool she called to ask a status.  She spoke to a lovely woman who informed her of the process.  It hasn't been long but when without her MT she got antsy.

I feel Vic's process while different in their initial approach from Leatherman is top notch non the less.  The wait time is long but getting a NEW TOOL seems a fair tradeoff.  I'd like to also add that getting a NEW TOOL plus the tool she sent in back was a bonus.  I understand if the tool was unusable but her like Joels could easily be modified to work again.

Vic you have a customer for life  :tu:

Thanks for the offer and after seeing your excellent fix on yours I'm sure only Vic could do better.  Hers is a simple fix a dremel can manage.  I appreciate the offer big time and will pass along your kind gesture to her.  She was going thru Spirit withdrawals  glad I had one to loan her in the mean time.  Nothing like a woman who loves her TOOLS

if you do the mod just keep it cool and grind slow.

if she wants me to fix it I will. No charge just shipping costs is all I ask. :)

a few thoughts

I'm impressed with vic
no other companies send's the broken back.
I think that is pretty awesome.
I'm going to replace the Swisstools I sold after I know how fair there warranty is.

I figured they sent your BO tool back because they didnt have a BO to send you as a replacement.  I think its awesome they send the old tool back but again I wonder if they have a way of accounting for unscrupulous folks who might want to try and get a warranty tool using the same tool, ya know?

I gave my spirit a very close inspection when I got it back and I could find no markings.

you would think they would mark it so it won't get returned again.
