So Vics never had the bail? I know I've seen some Vic Soldiers with the same style lanyard as the Pioneer.

Both had hollow rivets till around 92, then Vic adopted a solid rivet. I've only seen Wengers with a bail inserted in the hollow rivet but have seen Vic soldiers with a keyring like a Pioneer...is that what you mean?

Just recently on eBay I saw an 08 silver alox Soldier go for over 100 bucks.
Now I know they started the 111mm new style that year, are the silver alox ones that rare with an 08 stamp?

Folks that collect them see this as the terminus year of the Vic Soldiers so want one in their collection. That drives the price along with condition. I haven't seen any production numbers but I guess it's possible there were less made that year as well.

That's what I was thinking of. $75 is just too much for me though.

Some of the older Vic Alox came with a bail rather than a key ring, including Pioneer, Workman, and Woodsman.

Workman is a early name for the red alox version of the Pioneer Settler. In some markets the earlier version with a small clip blade was the Duo. Numbers for the clip version without bail are:  2205 / 0.8050.20.

I was sharpening my 90 Wenger SI when I noticed there was faint engraving on the blade.
The blade is very scratched so it can only be seen with light reflecting a certain way.
It says "Jahre" on the right with a crossbow in the center and I believe "100" on the left.
Anyone have any idea what this was?
Or seen other Soldiers with anything similar?

Sorry about the pic but it was the best I could get.

The Limited Edition Soldier Knife - 100 year Anniversary (1891-1990) has a special engraving on the main blade with 3 illustrations and the text "100 JAHRE".

There are a number of Wenger SIs with engraved blades.
Mine is so scratched I didn't realize it was engraved till I went to sharpen it and was angling it at the light.
Those are very fine looking in your pic.

So I'm looking at a post 08 (no stamp) Wenger SI on ebay right now. How does the quality of these compare to a Vic Soldier?

The same.  I have both and see little difference...they were both made to the same stringent Swiss specs. :tu:

Thanks, that's good to know. I like the bail on the Wengers. Now I just need to decide if it's worth twice the cost of a Vic Pioneer

The blade shape is slightly different on the SI. I believe they have more belly to them.

Their belly is a bit longer, and the Vic Soldier has a more severe curve towards the tip. :) I prefer the blade shape of the Wenger SI. One of the best pocket knives ever made, I think.

There were some Vic Soldiers with a bail. I think it was '93... I had one and sold it to SAKmikey I think...

You guys are right but I was only commenting on the quality difference in which they are equally superlative IMO!

I only have 4 soldier knife: 2006 victorinox, 2001 Wenger, unknown year Wenger, and 2013 Victorinox.
The last Picture, from mirror you can see, it really doesn't have year mark.
