Wenger Minigrip/Swissgrip Repair
on: January 23, 2014, 03:20:17 PM
A while ago I bought a Minigrip which needs it´s blade and metal saw replaced.
Is there anybody here who would like to do that (I can provide the donor tools)? :think:

Please let me know.

I can also imagine to let the tool go at a nice price as mod fodder or for you to repair it yourself.
I bought it for occasional use, but as it is it does not have a use for me.

Detailed pics to follow.

He already repaired a Wenger for me, and I was totally happy.

my Minigrip needed repairing and I sent it to Wenger for a warranty repair. They fixed it and replaced the scales etc. They did a great job.

It's a lovely tool.

I was wondering about wenger repairs, do they go to Vic now, or is there still a separate one for wenger?

In one of the Vic/Wenger thread it was stated that it now goes to Victorinox... ENKI!?!?!
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Quit giving him ideas! :twak:

Ignore them, Thomas. No one is doing repairs and Vic won't fix it. Just send it to me for disposal. :whistle:

I returned a Wenger to Wenger service about a month ago. It came back in a Wenger box. Things may have changed since though.

Incidentally, Vic asks for $5, Wenger for $3 for (presumably) return postage. Was 110% happy with the service from both.

I wanted to "test" how Wenger repair worked with old knives (from 80-90 time period) earlier last year, and sent 5-6 of them to Delémont.
I was, however, in contact with the Sales assistant, as I had been corresponding with him for quite some time with questions, etc.
I don't remember the exact costs for the repairs now, but I can teel you that:
1) Wenger doesn't stock all the old replacement parts, for example they don't have anymore the old scissors with screw;
2) I had to send them most of the parts needed from my duplicates (Dynasty scales, old blade with markings only on one side, ect);
3) The shipping cost to have everything delivered back to me was quite high;
4) The italian customs had the "great" idea to charge me for the repaired knives. I asked Wenger to clearly declare them as repaired knives and they did, but it didn't seem to matter.
Summary: extremely expensive and not worth it, unless you have a recent knife.
So best solution for older models is, in my opinion, to take advantage of the skilled modders from this forum.
Will be interesting to see how Victorinox/Delémont will handle the repairs for old knives now.

I'm sure though, if you're a regular user, the old knives will be quite well repaired with new parts, I'm sure :)

So, I'd say, not necessarily "not worth it"..
