A handy site

While looking for some resources to make a couple of wallpapers i stumbled upon this website http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ It lets you search through its database of logo's and download them in .eps format (not really sure what that is) which allows you to import them into your image editing software at what ever size you like, this means you can resize it to fill a screen or just make it a little logo in the corner.

A few good ones i've found:

http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/search/52156455/62485.html

Very handy site (if you like that sort of thing!!)

Thanks- I usually have to "steal" logos from manufacturer's sites, or beg them to send them to me!

It could be handy to have another option!

Well found roadie! Thats probably the best site out there for vector based logos. I had totally forgotten about that site. I used it about 3 or 4 years ago at school and its a great site. Just like you said the .eps can be made up to whatever size you want, because they are made of vectors not pixels, very clever really. I know for a fact Photoshop takes them, not sure about Irfanview or any of the other popular image editing ones though.

Ok, for us that aren't as computer literate, what's a Vector ???

Vectors are just lines. So each image you see which is in the .eps format has been made up of straight lines instead of the usual pixels (just like jpeg/tif/bmp etc). Thats why if you type in your image editing program that you want to make that .eps 200% bigger, all it does it make each line extend 200%, thereby keeping the clarity the same, so it is just as clear as the original. When you say make a jpeg 200% bigger, the pixels expand by that amount, so you get a larger image but the same amount of pixels, so you would then visibly notice the pxiels and the shading between each pixel is more noticable, that why increasing sizes of images made of pixels is generally a bad idea because they look pixelated/blocky. I believe thats how it all works anyway :D  I'm no image expert so I dont know it in anymore detail.
