Yeah, Die Another Day sucked hard! But, like you said- Casino Royale was VERY good!
I don't think Bond would carry a multitool. I think he'd carry a custom made by Q (or some Swiss Elf) card with separate highly machined blackened tools in it with screwdriver, lock picks, etc. Added to that, he might carry a nice slim and small custom folder with damascus blade and mokume bolsters. I really like the new Bond style. It was a reboot of what we've all come to expect, and what frankly became a little tired. My old favorite Bond, and this will not be agreed upon by others no doubt, was Tim Dalton. He had that elegance of Bond, but underneath a savageness that you wouldn't want to screw with. Craig has that even more; he's less elegant right now, as he's the proto-Bond, but he has that savage rather kill you with his bare hands than use a damn gun style. Afterall, Bond was an orphan. I also remember how people said "oh's no's a blond Bond?!!" and I just laughed, it seems to fit him. I'm looking forward to a lot less CGI and a lot more real old fashioned special effects and stunts. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to see a less refined, less worldly Bond, and see him develop gradually along the way into what we know him as. On the way he'll probably screw up more than once, and I frankly wouldn't be surprised if we get a movie one of these days where he actually doesn't win the day. I guess to some extent that's partly what we saw in Casino Royale, where somebody managed to defeat him very personally. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they did some retro Bond and took him back to the Cold War; this asymmetrical world must be hell on secret agents.

Daniel Craig may be, arguably, truer to the actual Bond than even Sean Connery. Please don't forget that James Bond was a character in a novel long before a star in a movie. He was a dark, rough-edged character. Nothing even close to the suave Pierce Brosnon, and a world apart from Roger Moore's silly comedy antics.I doubt that, considering the ratings of Casino Royale, the Bond legacy is going to nosedive anytime soon.
Daniel Craig is the worst Bond ever.
