Horizontal Belt Pouch
on: January 29, 2014, 03:01:35 AM
Hi!
I've been having a heck of a time finding a horizontal belt pouch/holster for my CyberTool 34.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?  I'm looking for something as thin and slim as possible, mainly because I'm not as slim and thin as possible.   ;)
I'm currently using the pouch that came with my Leatherman Skeletool, but it's a bit too big for my liking.
I'm amazed that there aren't as many horizontal pouches out there.

Thanks everyone!

I was looking at the Skinths...  I like the P1 and the S-Shield, but neither of them can be belt mounted horizontally.

Sucks that the Cybertool horizontal pouch is either out of production or a EU exclusive. Not sure.
I too like horizontal carry pouches. That's how I carry an extra mag for my Glock.

These may or may not fit the bill.
I actually own this one. It's pretty good, sturdy. Not the thinnest though. Not sure how bulky the Skeletool's sheath is so I couldn't give a size comparison.

MY biggest caveat though, when trying to remove it your better off just removing your belt.

This one I don't own. It's definitely thinner than the tool holster, but it would need a small mod I think. Maybe some paracord or test line threaded through the bottom. The tool holster has ok retention for something as thick as a Cybertool, but I beleive this one would be much better since it's meant to hold the thin bodies of flashlights.

Other options are horizontal cell phone pouches but I'm not sure these would fit properly.
The only cell phone I know of with dimensions similar to a SAK is the Samsung Juke which they never made a horizontal pouch for. Maybe you can could mod one, who knows.

Good luck and what ever you decide on let us know.

I have made a video about a minimalistic sheath using a ranger band(bicycle inner tubing), it is low cost and has a minimal profiling under a shirt:

The other one is what I called a magnetic sheath:

I have also written two threads about them, and could be found in the sheath sub-forum on MT.O.  :)

Just found this...
http://www.schweizer-messer.eu/Victorinox_Offiziersmesser_gross/Victorinox_Guerteltasche_echtes_Leder/4052031.html

Sprechen sie deutsche?

Original Victorinox Gürteltasche aus echtem Leder in der Farbe schwarz mit Velcro Verschluss und drehbarer Gürtelklammer.
Original Victorinox Belt sheat made / from real leather / color black / velcro fastener / rotating belt clip

fits
Officer knives small (84mm) and large (91mm) with up to 15 functions

Why not vert carry ? You know what works for me is a gerber small soft sheath, I think it came with a mp400 but the older ones. It lays really flat, about as flat as you can get. Just a thought.

I've found that vertical carry can get it caught or snagged getting in and out of office chairs, cars, and it digs into my hip.  Horizontal carry runs along the line of my belt and is very comfortable, as well as nearly snag-proof.

So far, the Skinth S-Shield looks like the best option, if I can get it horizontal mountable.

Just ordered these...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-3-Sheath-SH279-4-Knife-Pouch-Will-Fit-Most-Folding-Knives-P-To-4-Closed-Bl-/380834779551?
I don't like Velcro, but couldn't beat the price. Will see if these are acceptable for SAKs.

Just got my Skinth S-Shield!  I am loving it!  It's very compact and slim.  I had to trim about a millimeter from the end of the velcro to keep it from digging into my side, but other than that,it's perfect.

After a week or two of carrying, you gonna do a review???
Stopped carrying that little black pouch for a modded Maxpediton Micro Organizer. I'm liking it...

It's been about a week, so here's my quick and dirty review...
Basically, the Skinth S-Shield is a small, simple, no-nonsense, no-frills horizontal belt sheath.  It's very slim, and has small pockets on either side of the main compartment for a Space Pen or other some such thing.  I haven't had a real need for the side pocket yet.
My only quibble is the belt loops for horizontal carry are velcro, so where they connect, it can rub on my side a bit.  But that may be more of a problem with me being... plump... than anything else.  I'd prefer if the horizontal belt loops were not velcro, but permanently sewn on loops, but it's just a quibble.

I'll be sticking to my modded Maxpediton. Hope it serves you well. What else do you plan on putting in it?

I was really only looking for a pouch to hold the SAK alone.  I'm carrying it around as an EDC to compliment the Leatherman Skeletool I keep in the "Zippo" pocket of my jeans.
I suppose the side pockets will fit a Fisher Space Pen pretty well.
