Ditch is a harsh word. It became my back up knife, inside my computer bag.

Some details about my Surge kit that I EDC in computer bag.
I use ST300 sheath to store the bit kits and Piranha, and all saw blades go into the tube came with PWII.
The main reason I don't EDC Surge anymore is that one needs to carry all the accessories to take FULL advantage of the mighty Surge.

The Surge itself I am fine with it, just all the accessories are pain to EDC on person.

this might work for you to carry the surge as a kit.

Kampfer,

Is the Maxpedition TC-1 pouch still working OK for you?   I'm thinking of buying one.

It looks like you removed the Maxpedition label.  Did you subdue the formerly white stitching?  The stitching looks darker in the last photo.

I used a black marker to "paint" the white stitching of some of my black Maxpedition pouches.

Did you cut off the end of the cinch strap?   Remove the D-ring?

I imagine that buckling and unbuckling the stock cinch strap would slow access to the pouch contents.

Thanks!

You are correct on all accounts, sir.
The TC1 was a bit tight for me as I was using otter box on iPhone 5
After I watch the CNN report on iPhone cover, I switched to normal slim iPhone cover.
Now there is plenty of room in TC1 for the phone and a full size MT and a few small items.

I like to know all of your honest opinion on this:
As a desk jockey, I really don't need all these gadgets (in fact I was doing fine with just a Utility-Key in the past 10 years), but I am trying to develop the habit of having these gadgets on me 24/7 to be prepare for whatever life throw at me unexpectedly, regardless when or where.

I know some of you use a different EDC system, a specify kit for a specify situation or purpose, like urban kit, outdoor kit, tactical kit, disaster kit, etc...

I wonder if I am pursuing in the right direction. Thanks.

I have a just in case kit in my car, not a BOB, just a bag with some stuff I might need.

As for kits, nope. :D I have a base EDC that sometimes gets upgraded if I know I'll need something that day. The keychain, pocket flashlight, multi, ... stay the same for months, I rotate the SAKs every few days and that's about it. But that depends from person to person.

You have a reasonable set of gear.  Given what you describe, I wouldn't carry any more on your person except for a couple of bandages (e.g., simple Band-Aids) and a limited amount of over the counter medication, e.g., a couple of ibuprofen pills.

Your on-person kit covers the same capabilities as mine.  I've carried more items, but found that I rarely needed them.

What you carry in your car/truck is a different matter -- more meds, jumper cables, tools, etc.

BTW, I received the Maxpedition TC-1 pouch.  The cinch strap got in the way so I cut it off.

Kam I think we all go thru that same feeling.  You carry is great IMO provided you have a small FAK as well.  I posted regarding a similar feeling I was having

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,48885.msg812148.html#msg812148

I still feel the same way and since really giving it thought I'm comfortable with what I carry day to day when I'm off.  I may rotate out one MT for another or one knife for another but the BASE is the same.   I may also add in something just for fun or testing but the BASE remains.

I posted somewhere that I have an Evacuation bag in my room at the ready.  We live in California so the threat is real that we may have to leave our homes.  I also have a simple car bag with change of clothes, back up flashlight, larger FAK, and stuff to get me back on the road or keep me safe while I wait for triple A or help should I become disabled.

As I say in my post I linked, I'm not trying to prepare for everything.  Your EDC gear is "living" and becoming fine tuned as you carry it everyday.  You will intuitively feel the need to add or subtract as needs arise or concerns never materialize.  I say have fun with it and as I've always said EDC means carry something everyday at the very least.
