Victorinox Stiff Scissor Spring
on:
February 03, 2014, 08:55:01 PM
The spring on a victorinox huntsman I picked up used is pretty stiff, a lot more than my explorer. When I manipulate the scissor from the fully open position to where the blades meet it's fine, but after than point it's pretty stiff. I already tried cleaning and lubing the joint to no avail. This is really bugging me. Please Help!

I doubt it's the spring. Did you check the blades of the scissors. Are they OK, or maybe damaged by cutting something hard. That might cause a problem. Also if the pivot is really dirty it might take some good oiling and working of the scissors to get that grit out of the pivot. Is grown stuff comming out of the pivot after oiling and working the scissors?
EDIT: I'm getting slow lately.

So they close fine but open roughly is what your saying? Right?
That's the opposite of a "stiff spring" as you call it. It may be a weak spring. Or as the others have said something wrong with the edges of the scissors.
Could also be it just needs more time being broken in. Just cause it's used doesn't always mean they were ever really used. I love me some VIc scissors but I find the springs weak. Many occasions my scissor blades getting stuck together and having to be manually separated.

Thanks for the replies. I solved the problem with my spyderco sharpmaker. They weren't opening or closing smoothly
