Steve appreciation!
on: February 12, 2014, 10:11:07 AM
Just looking through some stuff I have and noticed I have a couple mods done by Steve and I just wanted to thank him once again. I really wish I had my camera, but the Ipad takes terrible pictures. Here are some customs that Steve has done for me. Thanks buddy!

The Orange one was done for someone else and I aqured it from him, but besides that the others are all made to order.

Camo Micra:

He was going to do a reasembly on it for me but I wanted a few things different. He made a mini replica of the Vic Spirits chisel/wire cutter thingy. He also made a blade to be like the straigt blade on a minichamp. I think I have a better picture of these tool. I will look after I post it.

The rest are all alox:

Silver alox solo. Cerekoted blade and spring.

The almost Explorer. Black liners. Died mag glass.

Mash up of tools I wanted.

Farmer with file added. Scales coated green. Tools coated black with the exception on the file and can opener by my request. Black liners. Two black springs and two regular springs. I think this badboy got steel pins as well.

Last and certainly not least is the old cross, red ribbed alox, Cadet with scissors added.

Thank you Steve for being my go to guy and modding for me. Hope all is well. Thanks again buddy!  :salute: :salute: :salute:

May I ask? The ultra cadet with the wenger pliers: what backsprings are used, and are there any necessary tips for the fitting of them?

I peened my first alox last week: added scissors to a cadet. The peening was easier than expected, but the removal of scales was more difficult. I have the recommended center drills now, so it'll hopefully be easier next time. There's always a next time  :)

I think it was 2 regular cadet springs with 2 birds eye spacers sanded down to fit.
Also you have to grind a small amount off the ends to make the springs fit flush

I wish I had a Steve mod.  I had two on order and sent him a whole mess of donors but it was not to be.  Something went south on his end and the donors were returned.  I hope things have picked up for you Steve!

Wow that's amazing! And I like the peening job on it (very important to me). Great work there :tu:

What Steve calls: "Just a pioneer minus the can opener add a philips" I call the SAK Praetorian!!!

I loved my factory SAK Tinker so much but always felt the can opener (although I did use it on the odd occasion) and the small knife (barely used!) were redundant items for me. The eyelet in the reamer was also something I've never had need for (plus an awl is better for paracord work with the rounded edge) and felt restricted by the central philips, especially as it sees tons of use.

Enter my dream SAK – The Praetorian. Lose the spare knife, lose the can opener, side mounted awl, side mounted philips, one decent blade and some awesome looking black Alox scales and a smooth pocket clip.

Steve was brilliant to work with and the finish on everything is just incredible. Great attention to detail. This is going to get regular use for the rest of my life I imagine. And one day passed onto my son.

Thank you Steve!!

That's actually genius. I mean, I just use the Vic can-opener as a Phillips anyways so why not have a REAL Phillips ?!  I like that a lot :tu:
