Oh yeah absolutely, tried using one to cut zipties. Needless to say that was the last time it saw the light of day, somethings are cheap and cheerful, others cheap and dreadful.

I own a couple of those and they are handy. I've never needed to do something important with one but for the price they ARE a USABLE pocket clipped folder. Better to drop that in the water fishing than a SAK!

When I was doing computer wiring I had something similar. I did not pay that low a price but it was +/- $5.00. That knife lasted me for years (I may still have it somewhere). I mostly used it for three things. Cutting CAT5, stripping CAT5 & cutting holes in drywall. All I had to do was tighten it once and a while.

I can agree to that, good for a beater or to leave in the tackle box. I thought it was a good idea to dremel off the serrations and then resharpen from there. Needless to say it didn't go too well.

Yeah. I picked up one of these at Walmart some months back, because, for $1, I was willing to pay to sate my curiosity.

It is dull, and is maybe the first knife I've ever owned where side-to-side play was so prevalent that it actually makes me nervous for my own safety when trying to use it.

Of less importance, but still REALLY annoying, it's set up for right-handers.

Mine is now sitting in my 'that was a mistake' box.

 :rofl:  I bought one of those a year ago before I joined here for the same reason.  Does anyone know what kind of metal it is?

Probably pot metal or something similar.

Says stainless on the blade.  ::)

Yes, it's stainless steel.  ::)

I played around with one of these. The problem I see with them is that they have a horrible grind, thick and not reasonably acute. If the blade had a decent thin and acute edge bevel, it might have been usable, even with the cheap, soft steel.

The lock was pretty secure, but the weak point might be the pivot in that hard, brittle plastic handle, which can be pushed to break if one prys with the blade. But everyone knows prying with the blade is a no-no, so maybe this isn't such a concern...

I use these for cutting bait when I'm pier fishing. I don't have to worry about the salsmurfer rusting my other knives. Plus it leave my Spyderco H1 sharp for when I need it. At the end of my trip I toss it in the trash and get another on my next trip.

For the price that's very feasible. Maybe just buy a whole box of em next time.  :D

Good deal, that is cheaper than an average letter opener! And I sure hope it is sharp enough to do so.

Using a folding knife to cut bait in salt water then keeping it would be just plain YUCKY!  :o
