Crosscut Picture Request...
on: December 25, 2006, 02:57:56 AM
Can someone post some pictures of the Crosscut?  If possible, could someone take a pic of the Crosscut next to some comparable tools like a Micra?  (I think those are comparable...)

I'll see if I have a few comparative shots... I am pretty sure I do...

Ok, I guess I was thinking about the CrossGrip.  And thanks, one of the pictures in the link you posted helps.

I'm looking for something with a heavy duty cutter in place of the pliers.  I think I saw one on here before that was a cable cutter...

Yeah, that's really close to what I was thinking.  Now I could only get the cable cutter in a SOG Crossgrip size tool

So you want a CrossGrip/CrossCut Hybrid tool?  Oh, wait, the Hybrid is a Leatherman tool... now I'm confused... what was the capitol of Arkansas again? :P

The funny thing is... yeah, that's exactly the reason.  Maybe I'll try to modify a CrossGrip into a "Christmas Packaging Removal Tool"

I dunno about Barbie dolls, but I've opened about a dozen clam packs in the past week with my LM Hybrid pruners and they've made short work of every one!

Clam packs are much more fun to open with the multi knife blade... you always have that risk of pushing too hard and the blade slipping and randomly stabbing someone that's walking by during a Christmas party... :)

The really bad part about those twisted wire ties that toy manufacturers use is that they are steel wire. I think the steel would notch the cutting surfaces on any scissor-type tool. And you can't use the hard-wire notch on a full-sized multi, because you can't usually get the whole plier jaw in deep enough to reach the hard-wire notch.

You kinda need some sort of a tool that has the nippers right out near the tips of the pliers.

I'm thinking I might be able to file down the Jaws on a CrossGrip to make a pair of cutters.   The Kick worked well on the wire, but it was difficult to get the tool into a position to use the cutter.

I dunno if that would work- usually cutters are hardened alot more than plier heads.  Pliers heads need to absorb a bit of shock, while the cutters need to be harder than what they are cutting.

True... but considering what I want to be able to cut, they should still be able to handle it.
