Hope this isn't too much of a thread necro.

I'm in the club!

These things are HARD to find on ebay, and when they show up, they're usually beat up or expensive, or both. This one was a lucky acquisition, cheap, and looks like it's never been used.

This just came in yesterday.  According to Greg's comparison post this appears to be a 7c variation with old style handles with shoulders, old style awl, and a two sided Simonds USA file.  The seller's description claimed it was new old stock, but it's a bit loose and did not come with a sheath.  I was hoping for one of the brown leather sheaths.  I'm not going to send it back anyway, even if the seller may have over stated the condition in the description.  My problem now is that I hadn't realized there were different variations of the MPT before opening this thread, and now that I know about them, well, you know.

The fancy MPT sheaths are quite nice ....   :pok:

As far as different variations go, well, that is the perennial curse of the collector who feels the need to collect all the different variations   ;)  And as we all know, that can be a never-ending rabbit-hole to go down, especially when super-collectors like Bob or Vladimir pop-up every now and then to tell you about a variation that you didn't even know existed

One good thing about the MPTs is that they don't seem to be too popular (so far), so prices haven't taken off like some other early MTs (eg some PSTs, LM Mini, Gerber MP650, SpeSmurfpillst MP600s,  Spyderench, Al Mar, Kershaw, TiNi SOGs etc)

Now, I must say, I don't know much about MPTs. I have three, but have yet to research them.  Is an "MPT #5" a specific variant of the MPT?  Or can anyone with MPTs post here?
Two of mine are mint (with dry factory oil) with leather sheaths. One BO and one SS.
Then I have one I use occasionally. The mass hotspots and extreme splay make it one of the most difficult tools to use in my opinion. :ahhh
But, it sure is pretty! :)

Thank you, David!
Why do I never check the MT wiki?

Now I need to get my hands on an early one, as they look more user friendly, with the cut outs not in the handles. :)
