I do antiques restoration. Anything from old telephones to 8' tall wardrobes. I'm always needing MTs (two at once sometimes), bit sets/blades, lights, measuring tapes, loupes (detail work), lighter (melt filler wax and awful smoke), and watch (I am obsessive about time). On my off-days, I over-carry, because I am used to having certain gear available. I carry a very slimmed down EDC on off days and rotate the tools I carry for fun. I collect MTs and watches, so that is why I am always posting different EDC setups. I have about 30 "user MTs"(doubles of collection pieces, of which there are almost 240 collection MTs).
I am single with no kids, so I buy stuff I don't need all the time.

I hope my reasoning makes sense, Valkie.

Perfectly reasonable.

I build wooden clocks for a hobby.
Wood hand made gears, etc
The only metal is the shafts.

But my other hobby is weapons for my daughters comiccon.
I need my MT for that to get into the fiddly bits.
Only wood, no metal at all.

A very interesting and admirable set of hobbies and side-projects, Valkie.

I love clocks and have always liked the really really antique wooden-movement clocks. The only clocks, I encounter in my day-to-day life, with wooden movements are more modern Cuckoo clocks. Thats some cool stuff you pictured there. I imagine it takes great patience to build wooden clock mechanisms.

A little;

I was a toolmaker in my trade days, so fiddly work is par for the course.

The clock is made using only very rudimentary tools as well.

I use a makita scroll saw with 0.5mm wide x 0.75mm deep saws.
The fine blades give a good finish which require only a little elbow greas to get a good surface on the teeth.
Even so, hand polishing and sanding can take hours and hours.

The only other tool I use is a bench drill.
Now go back and look at the pictures and imagine hand sawing all those teeth.
For every gear you see, I have made at least two, because I have broken a blade, worn a blade so it cuts off, or simply not cut it right.
Then as you assemble the clock you have to test each gear against its mate to make sure they all run free and clean.

That clock took 4 months to build.

All with just a little screaming and whimpering into my pillow at night.

My wife thinks I'm a nutcase.

And you know what, She could be right.

Very cool! I use a scroll saw at work for roughing replacement trim pieces. I would probably break ten+ pieces trying cuts that intricate.  :ahhh

I've modified a couple of brass drive gears for antique clocks and know the patience/skill involved. Was definitely not a cost effective use of my work time to do it, but the boss and I just called it experience. Haha

You're in good company here at MT.o. There are a few nutcases here, myself included.

Does a mini-pocket dump count?

Thank you, RF!
I like the veff blade. The serrations are easier to sharpen on a semi-circle fine-stone. And they cut rope like crazy. :)
I like the knife, but hadn't thought about it until another member posted his today. I had carried it earlier this year and liked it. The locking mechanism is different, but easy to get used to. The thumb stud unlocks the blade to fire out. Kind of cool. :)

If you see an Ignitor for $20, I'd recommend getting one. It feels and functions like a $50 knife(my example does anyway). :)

excellent stuff, especially lovely the flat loupe and the rescue knife, which seems like all the blade you need in addition to a pointy MUT blade  :salute:
You forgot to mention the SAK (Swisschamp XL?  ???) and the weird round thing it seems to have attached to it  :dunno:

But, all in all... All bases covered!  8)

PS: is the rescue knife a button lock, or is that button for automatic opening?

Firstly, very nice combo as usual, TP. :like:

Thanks for pointing that out.
I will be carrying the SwissChamp XLT with the other HD gear today with a tiny lanyard attached for pulling it from the Victorinox sheath I bought for it. :)
The knife has an automatic strap cutter, but still has a OHO(non-auto) blade.

I just hope my pants survive the day.
