I'm glad I bought my executives during my first Chuck Yeager challenge several years ago.  Still have the search for them on and can't believe the prices now.

I did not really need another utility knife, but I subscribed to the Kickstarter anyway. Like screwdrivers, I have a hard time resisting them.

This works with magnets.  The brass button has two in it.  There are magnets of the same polarity half way down the backplate, so when the blade reaches the open position, magnetic repulsion snaps the button up locking the blade into place.  The magnets at the bottom of the backplate are of opposite polarity and hold the slider in place when it is closed.

That looks gorgeous. How is it in action? Do the magnets hold it securely?

The magnets are strong and I think it’s completely secure. It locks open with a snap and closes with a snap, really quite fidgetable (I have already annoyed my wife with this).

The one issue I have with it, which may not be an issue for most, comes from the strength of the magnets combined with the fact that the milled pattern on the slider is quite fine and not super grippy.  I have unusually dry hands and as a result when I push the slider with my thumb it sometimes starts to slip instead of moving the slider forward. My involuntary reaction to that is to press down harder, which increases friction between the blade and the knife, meaning it does not move. Once I worked out why this was happening, I can just lick my thumb if it’s very dry and things work fine. I think for most this would not be necessary, it’s my skin that is weird. But I am going to suggest to Dave that the knurling is improved if there is a Mk 2.

Apart from that I really like it. Feels very good and well balanced in the hand. You could use it for proper work without a problem.

I needed a rain cover for my backpack and had REI points. So I tossed a memory in the cart. My first lock back knife was a rusted out LST my dad had in his fishing tackle box. I don't remember if being this small. But I will be carrying it now. Cause really, it is just enough. I remember it being Yonder sized, (Middle comparison) Funny what time does.
