Contest Urban Companion has arrived!
on: June 02, 2008, 11:43:33 PM
Woo!

A nice surprise waiting in my mail box when I got home last night. The Urban Companion from scrappy's giveaway. The post office did a number on the packaging, really kicked the box's butt.

Knowing how large the handles are on the Legend and Urban series multis I expected the knife to be much larger but have really taken a shine to it's slim design.

Compared to a Delica.

Seems like an excellent accessory to a plier-based keychain tool.

I really like the ergonomics. The lockbar is really comfortable to use since it's rounded on the edges and does not dig into your fingers like the pointed metal ones on the Legend series.

After handling the tool I'm a little cheesed off I missed it's run. Since it uses the same implements and lock system as the Legend series I suspect the tools could be swapped out. Which means it would be possible to transfer implements to your preference. I'm going to keep an eye out for one for sale, I want to pop in a saw coupler would be really and to have when I don't want to tote a full-size multi with me.

Thanks again scrappy!

Scissors are very nice, I like the Gerber scissors for heavy cutting. They seem to handle zip-ties and thicker cardboard without flexing better than most of the others. I can just about open them one-handed too.

Wow, I see what you mean about this knife being related to the 700 and 800 Legend tools. Lots of similarities.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Are the handles aluminum or plastic?

I think that they are the same as the Gerber 800 Legend handles. If I am right, it is: nickel-coated die-cast aluminum!

Yup, they're alu-minium. The knife is surprisingly lightweight and it carries well when wearing dress pants since it does not create a lot of pocket sag/swing.

I'm not attracted to the styling of it, but it sure looks like a handy tool!
