Champion plus+Victorinox
on: March 07, 2014, 04:55:10 AM
So if you guys have read my "Victorinox" thread, I decide to add one more knife to it: the champion plus. But the problem is, because when I go camping, we do a lot of things: fishing, writing (P.S I hate to carry pens around), ... just about anything! If I choose the Ranger or Huntsman, I will have to carry more things like a pen or something like that, but if I choose a champion plus, BONUS, I can carry lots of items at the same time. So what do you guys think?

At the end of the day it is all up to you bud, the Champion definitely has a good tool loadout. But are they all really relevant tools to your intended use? Is it worth the added weight and size? I feel like a slimmer tool would be easier and more ergonomic to use, ESPECIALLY if you plan on using that as your only pen.

I prefer a SAK and a Fisher Bullet, as I find the Vic scale pens to be too awkward for anything but a very short note.  If you insist on having the pen in the scales, you can still get the 91mm SAK of your choice and buy the pen and plus scales separately (usually, though they seem to be in short supply of late), then replace the factory scales on your knife with the plus scales.

Don't sweat your initial choice of SAK too much.  You won't be able to stop at one anyway, especially if you make a habit of hanging around here.   :D

Detron, are you kidding me, who would bring an XLT Swisschamp to camp? It is heavy, big, bulky, and it's a collector item. But that is funny actually

We're just messing with you, the one I suggested is bigger than my car :D. Honestly it depends on the type of camping that you plan on doing. I rarely find the need for a lot of tools while I'm camping.

While I don't personally have one, I feel something like a Huntsman could handle any of my tool needs 98% of the time. I like a sturdier dedicated blade for camping and most outdoors activities and, besides when I'm biking, that sees the most use.

I go on various camping trips. Often, I go to the beach. But twice a year, I will be in the forest!
