Winter has been rough, but beautiful!
on: March 12, 2014, 03:03:17 AM
Headed out to Lake Michigan today to take some FROZEN LAKE pictures.   Bummed there was no way to get a SAK or MT into the picture, but these are really cool looking anyway.

These are all taken with my cell phone, I wish I had a better camera for stuff like this, but they turned out OK anyway.

for those who are not familiar with Lake Michigan, it is a very large lake, and has tides, so it does not freeze as quickly as most smaller lakes.

here are a few stats that might help explain how large

Max. length   307 mi (494 km)
Max. width   118 mi (190 km)
Surface area   22,300 sq mi (58,000 km2)
Average depth   279 ft (85 m)
Max. depth   923 ft (281 m)
Water volume   1,180 cu mi (4,900 km3)
Shore length1   1,400 mi (2,300 km) plus 238 mi (383 km) for islands

anyway, here are some pictures

If I can help, let me know

I always loved the lakes. I miss them. Might have to do a trip on my bike this summer to go see them again.

a few skis on the bottom of your kayak, and and some ice hammers on both ends of a long pole and you could be "KAYAKING" again

Those are nice pictures! The ice is very nice looking and smooth. All the places on Lake Ontario I drive by the ice is all mounded up in huge piles and icebergs.

Nice pictures detron. I read that last Saturday Lake Michigan broke a 41 year old record by being 93.29% covered with ice.
