Honestly, the best hand powered saw for sheet rock that is SAK sized, at least in my experience, is the fish scaler! Use a round needle file to just touch the edge up, and rips through dry wall without picking up a lot of crud.

Gotta love how most people use the fish scaler for everything but scaling fish ;).

Never needed it.  I was also cut really bad with one as a kid so I dont tend to like them much.  For me the metal saw/file is much more valuable than the wood say.  I think vic should release urban farmers with the metal saw instead off wood.

Although I've owned Campers, Hikers & Farmers, I've never used the wood saw yet!

An "Urban Farmer" sounds more like it.
Do you think it would be possible to mod a Farmer by changing the wood saw for a metal file/saw using the same backspring?

I think it is same backspring but I'm not sure.

I've used it for cutting through plastic and as a comb.

I don't use one very often though.

I like having the SAK or Rebar saw handy for small branches. I don't use it a lot, but it's there to save the day when I need it.

Yes absolutely, the metal saw works perfect with wood saw backspring.

Thanks for the info.
It's stiring the thought of a perfect alox mod for me.
Once I get back to work (another 2 months convalescing yet) I just need to find a metal saw, pruning blade, electricians blade & suitable blade backsprings.

I'm an organic gardener and also like to whittle, so I use it on wood very frequently.

A great secondary use I have discovered is that it is a great bread knife.

BTW, the teeth can be CAREFULLY sharpened with a triangular file.  I've done it a couple times after watching some youtube video on it.

I have also heard of sharpening the Vic saw by laying it flat on its side and working it over a flat sharpening stone, then repeating with the other flat side of the saw.  I haven't tried this myself, however, as my Vic saws don't get used often and none have gotten to the point of needing resharpening.
