I forget where I read this and it might even be true. Maybe you have heard it before.
It was 1938 and Germany had annexed Austria and taken over Czechoslovakia. Herman Goring was visiting Switzerland and was invited to a revue of the Swiss Army.
While watching the soldiers parade, Goring turned to the Swiss General beside him and said "what would you do if we invaded your country?"
The General replied,"we would fight"
Goring then said, "what if we invaded with an army twice as big as yours?"
The General replied, "we would issue orders for each of our soldiers to fire twice."
I love that response. It's witty, humorous and even has a touch of menace since it implies how well trained and disciplined the Swiss Army was. A simple answer with a simple solution to a big problem.
