Victorinox Space Shuttle Purchased From Japan Website...Shipped to USA

I have been looking far and wide for one of the Victorinox Space Shuttle models, especially now that the Space Shuttle program is essentially dead.  I remember passing these by so many times when I lived in Florida.

I heard from this forum that they are available in Japan, and followed a link to Amazon Japan, where it was indeed available.  After going through the process of registering in Amazon Japan, I tried to purchase one and it failed.  I got a message that they will not ship this to the USA (I have no idea why), due to Victorinox not shipping this model to the USA.  I was indeed quite annoyed.

I kept searching, and found it on a site called the Rakuten Global Market, and found it on this page:

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/v-road/item/372712/

I followed through the order, and got a message that they would contact me for further confirmation, and they accepted Paypal.  I got an email the next day telling me they would send me a Paypal invoice, and sure enough they did.  It came out to 7600 (6400 plus 1200 shipping) Japanese Yen, which totals around $75 USD.

Seven days later, it shows up nicely packaged and brand new in the box, with a hand written letter thanking me for my order (the Japanese are so polite).  It is obviously a current issue model, as it has more tools than the original (package hook and chisel added), and the tank stamp reads Swiss Made, which is a clear indicator it is new.  Otherwise, it is an absolutely gorgeous and solid knife, and I am really thrilled I could get one of these.

Very nice find! i thought those werent available new anymore. I second that about the good manners, i had lots of good experiences buying online from all over the world, but in the eastern countries, japan, taiwan and china too i found excellent treatment.

I wanted to get a knife from Rakutan but I didn't know about the shipping and the whole page was in Japanese.

Nice find. I bought mine there as well a couple of years ago. I remember it came with several brighly colored thank you notes and Japanese novelties :D

Oh and I just found a SAK with the shuttle facing the other way listed somewhere.

Sold out.  :ahhh

Any members here living in Japan that can forward one from Amazon.co.jp? They won't ship outside of Japan and I'd love to get one of these for my collection.

An additional option would be to use a forwarding service, like the one I listed here

I looked into the forwarding service Carlo is suggesting. One thing to be aware of: their privacy policy basically says they can use your personal information any way they want any time they want.

Surprised that Rakuten would ship to the US. When I tried them some years back they wouldn't.

Karl,
had a quick look at the company privacy policy and I honestly don't see anything too suspicious.
It seems pretty standard to me.

However, I'm not affiliated with Tenso and, apart from registering, never used their service.
I found this company sime time ago while searching online for a forwarding service, and it was the best rated and pretty much well known.

ColoSwiss I wouldn't do it either and take the risk, that company sounds shady.
