The wonderful HEST

Shame that lionsteel doesn't make a version with micarta handles. It's a great little knife

I played with the niolox hest, and i still prefer the one with carbon steel.
But yeah, they should add the option with micarta.

what about the sleipner version? I'm not a fan of 1095 or ESEE

Haven't tried that one, but heard good things about it.
But the niolox is also good, its just that i prefer carbon steel, and the design of the original hest to the new one made by Lionsteel.
I have the niolox in the folder, it's a good steel.

What are the differences between the ESEE and Lionsteel version?

There is a hex drive in the tang of the Lionsteel version, versus the small hole on the Rowen made, the jimping is different, as the Lionsteel has wire strippers, and the "pry bar is at a different angle, and with one hole instead of two. Plus the grind seems slightly thicker on the Lionsteel version.
Also the Rowen HEST has a deeper choil, for breaking wires, and it comes with a more compact Kydex sheath.
And it's not RAT/ESEE anymore, just DPX Gear.

You're telling me it's not connected to ESEE any more? I thought those were leftovers before ESEE and Rober Young Pelton went their separate ways

It's not connected any more. There was the first HEST, which was the RAT one, then as RAT became ESEE, it got a new engraving, and that was it.
Pelton separated from ESEE, and ESEE from Pelton, and he started DPX gear, and moved the HEST production to Ontario knife, then to Lionsteel with the folder, and so on.
And then he went back to the actual makers, Rowen, so now there is the Rowen Hest sold as the original. Just DPX.

I was actually there when the split happened and when RYP went with Ontario and Lionsteel. But didn't know he went back to Rowen, in a way at least.

Oh and nice one Dale  :drink:
