Sorry, first one for me with such a forked blade.

Could you post a picture of the tang stamp?

"Deadbait Roach"

I think I'll use that as the name for my next band!   :ahhh

Back to the OT, they must be common enough if you found three locally. Maybe they are of regional manufacture?

I'm sad to say that after a long number of attempts at google-fu, I have failed to come up with anything. Usually it's enki_ck with the encyclopedic knowledge of the european stuff, so after stumping him, I don't know what else to do. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, but welcome to the boards!

I'd swear I'm seeing a stamp... Can you make a picture of just the knife blade, maybe?

That tang stamp is visible, and says 'Stainless Steel' upside down in the original post. Might have something on the other side.

Those forked blades usually come on cheese knives but I don't remember seeing one on a multibladed folder before.

The back side of the blade is a fish scaler. I don't think the split is a cheese fork. I think it's a hook disgourger.

I found some pics of 'Remington Daddy Barlow Fish Scaler' that has a similar blade, but no split tip. I ALSO found some other pics of old Japanese Pocket Knives with the same style can/bottle opener.

My guess then is that this is a Japanese made knife, copying that blade style, and adding elements. Still searching.

EDIT: Here's a pic of the Remington scaler blade...

Also, on closer inspection with some pics of vintage japanese 'hobo tools', it also has the same style nail file.

I have no info on this particular knife, but I do have one observation- the only times I have ever seen a knife without a country of origin stamped into it were of Chinese origin.  Of course, many of those were of such poor quality than I just assumed no one wanted to take responsibility for them.  Is there a country of origin stamped on the opposite side of the STAINLESS STEEL?  That would be a good starting point.

For some reason a lot of French knives are unmarked. The top knife was bought new in Paris. Says 'France 440' on the blade, but no maker name. The dealer was able to look up the maker, Dorres Chastel. Was told the lower knife was French when I bought it, but it has absolutely no markings. Have also heard that some small Spanish makers don't mark their knives. Don't know if its because the knife is intended for a small local market or what.
