Thinking about getting a swisstool
on: June 05, 2008, 08:24:09 AM
I have used SOG's and LM in the past. I was looking at a swisstool the other day and like the fit and finish.

My only question is that the pliers seem to have the smallest capacity, i.e. max width open, of any of the larger
multi's

Has this ever been an issue for anyone in everyday use?

They are actually more capable than the PowerLock plier head.  Sure, it opens wider than the SwissTool, but the compound leverage means the handles have to open twice as wide in order to have the jaws opened the same amount.

That is where it all begins, next thing you know your kids college fund is missing and you have several SAKs laying around (but you never get your fill).

Go for it! The SwissTool is a great MT. If you do, you HAVE to square of the drivers on a bench grinder or something!

I doubt I will grind it. I am used to SAKS. I also find that all general use screwdrivers are beveled so they will fit a variety of screws. You just have to use a lot of downward pressure to keep them from walking out.

Flat ground and hollow ground are great if they fit the screw exactly, if not they end up buggering the screw because they only engage the outer edges of the slot.
