My new CT41's have this newer file. What can you tell me about it?

I can only say that the file is newer than the old one.  :B:
There's a photo of it? And did you already used?

The older file wasn't stainless steel I don't think, and required a hard chrome plating. It made it a bit less aggressive. The newer stainless steel file has a more aggressive surface and a different tooth pattern cut into it, making it even more effective.

I have tools with both files, and the new one is a massive improvement. It chews through most metals without fuss.

This is great news... I'm glad my new CT's are equipped with it as they are my favorite SAKs :D

The old file was more slim, somewhat flexible and had two different textures, one on each side. Rough and medium/fine. The second one was good for nails. The new one cuts down to your finger's flesh almost instantly. The new file is better but they should pair it with the nail file on the hook tool.

I'm not worried about it being usable for fingernails... for that I'll use the file on my Rambler or Style CS. I just care that it's a good multi-purpose file and metal saw.

My Mountaineer has the new style file, and I do think it is usable for fingernails.  It is a good deal more aggressive than the nail file, however.

I think they came with the release of the Spirit and have the same type file, so if you have a Spirit you can test it out.

The Spirit came out in 2004 and the new file started appearing at the same time, 2005 at the latest, probably when they ran out of stock on the old files.
