Ok so stupid question NK   What are you doing with all these fish?  You have a big family, I dont imagine freezing them is a good idea.  Fish fry saturdays?

Very nice NK! Brings back memories...

I don't get to fish nearly as much as I like, and the best local bass dam has been destroyed by a mine....this pic is from 2007.
100 fish a day was possible, most people C&R, 100% so myself

Fly fishing is my first love, and the times on the Orange river were the best of my life...

Speaking for myself, I don't know what NKs plan is. But I'm always catch and release.

It's almost fishing season here!
And there's still snow on the ground. And the freshwater is still frozen.

Someday maybe. Instead of waders I guess I need snow shoes.

I was thinking an OHT would be pretty handy for fishing, when my Sidekick/Wingman mod gives up the ghost or gets lost I might have to get one!
Nice job on catching all those Bass NK! :tu:

I do quite a bit of yellow fishing on the Vaal,  season starting to tail off and then it will be trout through winter.

I did 2x 4000km round trips to try and catch Yellows on fly on the Vaal.....nada, zip.

Did my first stint in the little town of Rosh Pinah 2009, walked into the Orange at the Excavator rapid (37 VERY scenic Km's from my front door) with a fly rod and nothing but theoretical knowledge, walked out 40+ fish in less than 2 hours later smiling like a fool and completely bomb-shocked.

On the Orange fly fishing is a winter game, if all goes well I'll be there 16-24 May, water levels are low like they last were in 2009, and apparently they're already nailing the fish.....can't wait!

Cheers
Gerhard

Thats crazy man!
In summer you are certain to catch a whole lot of fish on the Vaal river, even if you have no clue how to do it.
Unless you are targeting largies, small-mouth are everywhere. (Jan-March)

Spent easter pap-gooing with the family, not my favourite fishing style but I caught more than I could count. (Vaal Dam, Carp, Yellows and Muddies)
In 2-3 weeks I'm off to St Lucia and Cape Vidal with the 9wt fly rod, some wavies and kingies are in for a little fight I'm sure.

I would love to do the Orange sometime, I hear its spectacular, what the Vaal would have been like 30-40 years ago.
