Nice Gar!

What did you catch it with? I've seen some Gar Pike (long nose gar) in my local fishing spot but they don't seem very interested in anything I've thrown their way.
Only a month and a half late lol

Actually it tried to eat live bait from a circle hook on a Cajun thunder.

The hook perfectly pierced the center of her top jaw, we had to cut it in half to get it out.

Thanks for the reply. No worries on the time delay, I haven't been able to do much fishing this year. :(

I typically don't run live bait in the area where I've seen the gar. Might have to get some minnows and give it a spin.

They are salsmurfer/inshore. They hangout on flats but really gang up on structure during the winter.

I'm sure you've seen pictures of their teeth before, somewhat similar to humans plus a ton of extra molars

Interesting , What do they primarily eat ?  shellfish ?   Those teeth look like they are made for crunching.

Yeahp! A variety of oysters, barnacles, crabs, and shrimp. However people have caught them on artificals and live bait fish as well.

We were actually using mud crabs (much like a fiddler crab) as bait. With #8 bluegill hooks.

Sheepshead have incredible eyesight and are very finicky about eating a hook.

Had planned to turn this bread knife into a bait knife but was talked into making it a fillet knife.
