Note for Rebar modders: just discovered that the thumb tab of Wave scissors will probably need shortening by about 2 mm to entirely clear the Rebar inner pliers spring in the handle so that it can lie flat and not obstruct the pliers.

I don't remember having to shorten my scissors  I have put them in 2 different Rebars (one for myself and another for my nephew) I will have to check now to be sure :ahhh :D

I also didn't have the problem originally, it only arose after I'd put in the Wave file which prompted a reordering of the other tools. YMMV.

Further information which might be useful for swapping tools between Charge, Wave and Rebar and perhaps others:

Tool width in mm, measured with calipers:

Wave/Charge/Rebar range:

Scissors 2.50 **
Large flat screwdriver 2.40
Small flat screwdriver 1.80 *** (can in addition be ground down to an awl for Wave/Charge)
Phillips driver 5.00 *
Large bit driver 5.00
Mini bit driver 2.00
Awl 1.80 ***
Can/package opener 1.90

Rebar:
PE blade 1.80
SE blade 1.85
Saw 1.80
File 1.80

Wave file 1.85 (just in case a mod is planned... requires profiling a lock cam and slot)

Notes:
* handles and nail nick will need grinding down to fit Wave/Charge
** thumb tab may need shortening for scissors to fit Rebar
*** width and * will need grinding down to fit Wave/Charge

Thanks Breezy... I think I'll try swapping the heads first, judging by appearances it might *just* work out without  (much) further grinding on the tools- I already did quite a bit of that to make the three new tools fit. Thanks for the tip regarding the blade locks... but I think I'd only consider doing away with that in a real emergency. I had also considered grinding at the pliers head but share your misgivings, especially in view of a fellow member's report on broken pliers...

Sent on my SM-G930F with Tapatalk

Did the pliers head swap, i.e. put Rebar pliers into my Wave R. As a result of this I'm considering renaming it to ReWaveR.

Unfortunately, my earlier misgivings have proved correct to an extent. The tool won't close completely because the pliers head hits the inner tools. However, the gap is only 1.5 mm or so and when the tool is closed as far as it goes the blade interlocks in the handles still clear the blade, albeit narrowly. I'm not sure what I should do at this stage, but tend towards leaving it as it is for now.

Try filing down the Philip a little to make it a little more "2D". That should work.

Doesn't look bad the way it is IMO  :tu:

I wouldn't file down the Phillips that's for sure.

Is it the width of the plier heads that is the issue?

I think it is the width which is locally greater for the Rebar pliers than for the Wave ones, over a limited portion of their length. The Rebar ones are also less rounded off, although I don't think this is the problem here. The overall thickness is identical for both.

Thanks :hatsoff:
I might try shaving some more material off the flat screwdrivers. That should still be possible without impairing their function...

In other news: Happy New Year!

I have filed some material off the flat drivers (small one in shank width, large one made a minute bevel on the upper inner edge as one looks down into the handle, same for the can opener which I took the opportunity to sharpen to lethality) as well as off non-critical parts of the inner handle spring and rivet area. This has reduced the gap, but a small one remains - not due to the Phillips, fortunately, so I won't have to affect its functionality, but the pliers head is now hitting the upward bent part of the handle springs (as measured with the trusty method of a small strip of paper interposed between head and spring and tugging at it until one notices where its stops being held). I am not about to start Dremeling or filing those, so I'll have to live with the remaining gap (about 0.8 mm or so). Not ideal, but after all it's a mod :D.

I am now ready to officially rename it the ReWaveR (note the intended positions of capitals)  :salute:!

Thanks to all for the tips, and Happy New Year 2018 to all as well :2tu:

New guy here, been looking through the pages for the last several days and have some ideas in mind for my LM Charge XTI.  Used to carry it daily but haven’t for a few years, thinking about putting it back on my belt after a few mods, one of which will certainly be adding Wingman or SAK scissors but the other two I’m having a hard time finding.

I’m looking to replace the plain edge knife with a similar size/quality combo edge and replace the serrated knife with a dedicated strap cutter.  I’m a firefighter and the serrated blade is handy/needed for cutting rope and such, the plain edge is nice for most everything else, and the dedicated strap cutter will be a backup to my Benchmade 8 hook or if for some reason I don’t have it.  I know the current serrated blade has the gut hook but I’m just not sure how effective it is not to mention the opposite side is a sharp serrated blade and not exactly ideal.

Anyone know any strap cutter that can be made to work?  Have read the the one off the OHT isn’t great but the Raptor strap cutter is but haven’t been able to source the parts, could justpurchase the V-cutter from SOG but not sure what it would take to get it to fit.

Thanks in advance for any help, you guys definitely have the wheels turning for me.

Welcome to :MTO: :salute:

Seems the Raptor strap cutter would work  but never seen it down and am not for sure :-\ Plus you would either have to track the part down as you are trying or buy a Raptor for the part :ahhh Either way good luck in the search and the mod :like: :like:

20 minute Style PS/CS mod to remove the useless carabiner and add a split ring instead.

Tools needed: wire cutters, file, knife or hacksaw blade

1) Carefully cut the black plastic at the base of tweezers, about 2 mm below the rivet, with a knife or hacksaw.

2) Use wire cutters to snip the carabiner at the base of the cutouts (4 places). These can just be snapped off with the cutters.

3) File down the jagged stubs remaining until they are roughly even with the plastic piece you cut in step 1.

4) Add split rings as shown in the photo.

Never lose your Style PS or CS again because it fell off the keyring.

Erm.. Do you really need to remove the carabiner to add the ring? There's already holes to attach the rings? Imo the carabiner serves as a extended handle to use the scissors.. I dun use the carabiner but definitely like it there for its longer handle..

Hello all,

At the beginning of 2018, I became a new owner of the Leatherman Wave  :-) .

It's really a great tool !!

When I see all mods/hacks, one thing are really cool, it's replace file or blade by a bigger scissors .
Did you have a really good howto with marketplace to buy the scissors ?

Thank's in advance.
