I've got at idea for a 'retro' Rebar...(maybe PST III) apologies if this has been done by someone before, but here goes:

- Take the handles from 2 PSTs.
- Bisect all the handles length-ways so that the cut edge of the 'extended' side runs perfectly central along the spine, pliers to tool end.
- Reassemble like a Side Clip, but only using the 'extended' handles.
- You can now place long tools on all sides of the pliers, like the Rebar, winning 2 more tool slots. (5 tools a side)
- You'll lose the inch rule, as these sides of the handles get discarded.
- You'll need to extend the tool pivots by about 2.5mm to accommodate the extra width, and maybe a thin washer.

You do you guys think?

I think you should do it !   :pok:     :tu: :tu:

So busy with a little design work on the layout. Either adding a saw and SE blade to the existing PST tool load (like picture below), or same, but replacing the awl with scissors like you find on PST II.

What other options do you guys think I should consider? Would prefer to keep the tools LM, but prepared to reshape if needed.

Hey CsB :waving:

If it were me I would try to get scissors in there somewhere, Max  If not then you will have the same tools as a Supertool but that isn't a bad thing ;) Other than that I have no other preferences :tu:

Did the whole Mod in under 2 hours. Was surprisingly painless using the squirt PS4 to unscrew the Rebar.

I shortened the flat driver and made it into a chisel so that I didn't have to change the internal frame at all.

Cheers,
HG

I dun have any other things to add. But I would think that after you cut the handles into 2, the spring tab for the tools are going to be pretty weak and soft.. U may find the lockup to be less than desirable. This is speaking from my little bit of experience. The frame of a Sideclip is thicker than a pst so it doesn't have this issue. In fact the spring tab for the Sideclip is pretty strong..

my dream setup:

Charge with 2x s30V blades, Surge Blade exchanger, Vic scissors on the outside.

Inside:

Side #1
2D leatherman bit exchanger
Small flat driver (deep reach and can also unscrew Philips screws in a pinch)

Side#2
Awl
Chisel/Prybar (not sure which one more useful yet)
????? Not sure what to have as tool #3 (I would like it to be a multi-purpose tool like a scalpel blade holder)

3D printed Scales (set up to allow the blade exchanger, a holder for an additional leatherman bit, AND a small slot for Vic Tweezers. I have a 3d printer and would love to do something unique with it.)

I'm sold on double S30V blades though. Talk about edge retention!

Cheers,
HG

HG,

I may have some extra parts to help make your dream setup happen. Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss.

Sent you a PM, definitely interested.

I really want to get a charge too so that I can start doing some design for 3D printed scales. I don't see why I cant fit all of the Vic attachments into them. And from 1-2 spare 2d bits.

Cheers,
H.G.

Yes I was thinking about that Sam. I may need to TIG spot weld. Will check once it’s all together. Thank for the advice.  :hatsoff:

@MaxStone- if you allow me, i would suggest to have
A:Blade, Awl, Philips, Straight driver, Scissor
B:File, Can Opener, various drivers , Saw

I agree. Scissors will be good. Will have to sacrifice something as there are only 10 slots and shape/length limitations, so giving it some more thought.  :)

Since you’ll have a bit holder and a potential spot in the scales to hold a bit, you could always go grind a chisel bit.

Interesting idea Tarheelpwr to create a bit holder between the scales.  :like: there may be clearance issues on the inside, will have to check.

No idea but it would take a lot of grinding to a Wave handle to accomplish this I think  be cool to get one to work on it though :tu:

I'd do the grinding if I could get my hands on that driver. Problem is the rest of the tool is meh. So it would be hard for me to buy one. Anyone have a spare for sell or trade?
