Holy Crud! can I buy some parts from you? I'd love some rebar/blast saws. Also need the small flat drivers in some of the tools.

Cheers,
H.G.

I’d wanted to do this mod for years, and it finally became a reality this week, as I got ahold of some of Loki’s wonderful tools to pull apart my Rebar. Now my Wave has the 3D screwdriver and awl from a Rebar, swapped out for the two bit drivers. All in all, the mod went beautifully, and the Wave still closed up nice and tight.

And the resultant Rebar with bit drivers.

The Rebar swap was much more straight forward than the Wave, but reassembling the Rebar was very challenging without a dedicated jig.

Thanks everybody. The mod was a lot of fun, and much needed. Black Betty (the BO Wave) has been a dedicated camping/adventuring tool since it was purchased in late 2012. I like to keep my outdoor tools as simple as possible, and the bit exchangers didn't really fit into that scenario. I don't have a large need for screwdrivers when I'm outdoors either. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever used the eyeglass screwdriver successfully, as the heads have been too small for my last three sets of eyeglasses. So no loss there. And if I do need a phillips, chances are that the large 3D driver will do just fine.

I did consider buying a newer BO Wave with replaceable wire cutters, but again, I prefer to keep my outdoor tools simple, and wire cutters aren't very high on my list for camping/hiking anyway.

The Rebar is probably going into my tool box, replacing my old Skeletool CX, now that the Rebar has bit drivers.

Good analysis Buzz.  :iagree:

I feel the LM bit adapters are over-sold and prefer the solid tools. Just my 2c  :salute:

The more I play with them the more I agree..especially the philips in the Rebar. its even more solid than the one in the ST300. If I lose or break the bit I am down 2 tools instead of one, plus I run into reach issues constantly.

Cheers,
HG

Agreed. I like the idea of using bits for EDC work, but I often have problems with the bits being too short for the job. Never an issue with the 3D phillips, and I do have a BO bit adapter on order for the 3D phillips, in case I continute to EDC Black Betty, as I have for the last couple weeks. It'll be especially nice to adapt the 3D driver over to torx and hex, since I do a lot of work on knives and bicycles.

I did briefly consider going with the Rebar for outdoor stuff, as it had almost every tool I needed, minus the scissors. But the allure of the on-hand opening blades on the Wave was too great. It's funny how I don't need one-hand blades so much in normal life, but they are just incredibly useful outdoors.

This is why I have the long flat bit Phillips/flat in my Charge knife and if I don't have it then I try to have the long bit in a sheath with me at work  I do love the 3D square shank Phillips that LM has though :tu: I keep the bit adapter in a bit card in my sheath always just in case I do need it with a Rebar or ST300  (or any other tool that it fits :like: )

Pictures pictures! I'd like to see that setup.

Also

Have you considered converting your Wave into a Wave/Rebar hybrid Buzzbait? It truly seems like the best of both worlds.

All the tools in one place.

That weathered Black Oxide!

By the way, when you guys are talking about a "bit adapter" (or in Poncho's case, "but adapter" :D) you really mean 'Removable Bit Driver'.  :pok:
