Hey there, I'm new to the forum and I am looking at hacking my black Leatherman Kick. I have a few questions that I figured you guys might be able to help me with.

1. Will the Wave+ plier head fit in the Kick?

2. How difficult (or is it impossible) is it to get a BLACK diamond file in this thing?

3. If it is a no on the black diamond file, will the black blast file fit (Looking to put file in knife spot)?

4. Does anyone know what the threading is on the bolt on the Kick? I might throw a screw in the threaded bolt just to keep gunk out of the hole

3. Where would be the best place to source these parts?

Thanks so much for any help guys! I appreciate it.

Welcome to :MTO:

The Wave + plier head will fit but have to be ground down on one side in the Kick because of its thinner profile and therefore wouldn't be BO where you had to grind it  (the Fuse and Blast would not require the grinding) :tu: you will have to grind the BO diamond file to fit the pivot end of the Kick, it will have to match the pivot end of the other tools vs. the liner lock end it has. The BO Blast file would be a straight drop in :salute:

No idea on the size threads for the hole  but sourcing a Kick clip would be fairly difficult (especially in BO :ahhh ) the clip would come with the correct fastener to fit in the hole :D

Down in the Multi-tools for Sale forum we have a member named loki-mobile whom has parts and even the wrenches to take LM apart :salute: Very good to deal with, takes a day or 2 for him to reply to PM sometimes (you also will have to have 5 posts to even message him though) :salute: Otherwise you would have to buy donor tools to get the parts

Here is the thread I am talking of Here and good luck with the modding :tu:

Thanks for the quick reply and the welcome! Question with the wave plier head in the kick, there appears to be some spacers next to the plier head. If I ground these down do you think I could make up the difference? Or are the wave plier heads wider than the actual Kick frame?

The plier heads are actually ground down to allow long tools like the knife and file to be used :salute: The spacer makes room for the long tools and if you remove that you will be stuck to using only shorter tools :ahhh

If you aren't stuck on using the Kick you might be able to track a Fuse down and the Wave + plier head will be a straight drop in, you would gain scissor and then still replace the knife blade with a file  You may want to use the Kick because of it being non locking or slimmer but the Fuse in only fractionally bigger :tu:

Good to know, thanks. I'll be tracking down a BO Fuse once I get some money back in my budget  :D

Beautiful! Love the look of that one! With that much length do you get much slop side to side while using it?

Being so centered it works really well as a screwdriver, I would put it up there with dedicated ratcheting screwdrivers in terms of quality :salute:

Even without the ratchet it is my favorite screwdriver but with the ratchet, it is unreal how happy I am with it :like:

I'm sure putting Rebar awls in Waves is old hat by now, but I've been meaning to do this for quite awhile. I replaced the flat driver, which I don't ever use.

Zoomed in, and with the sharpness and levels turned up to 11, you can see the washer I added to keep the awl from scraping along the side.

If the nylon washer ever gives up, I can always replace it with something else. It's what I had that fit.

What did that file come out of? It's got a needle sharpening groove!

It would have came out of a PST II but I got it brand new old from a lot that AHB got :salute:

The older PST II had the groove but newer ones don't  :tu: The reason being is that people used the groove more and it wore out quicker and people were sending them.in for warranty just to have the file fixed :ahhh So they lost the groove :D

Always a worthy mod :salute: Great pics and the washer is just that little extra something that makes the mod even smoother 8) :like:

The more you know!

I understand the change. What a pain that must have been for the warranty department!

Thanks! I've been meaning to do it for years. I couldn't tell you why it took me so long to get up the wherewithal.

I previously posted this in the Bond club thread, but I thought I would post it here as well. Just a simple mod, a Bond with the file replaced by the saw from a Rebar. The saw fits like a glove; the only physical modification that I made was to glue a strip of plastic on the inside handle surface for the tip of the saw to rest on.

Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

Hooray! My Wave+ finally has a capable awl! I made it from a Sidekick/Wingman flathead driver.

This turned out to be a better "awl blank", if you will, because the little retrieval tab is so much lower on the tool compared to the standard Leatherman flathead driver on the Wave/Charge/Blast/Rebar/Bond etc. This allows for a longer blade length (capable of deeper drilling/reaming before the tab interferes) relative to the overall length of the tool. That's important, because this awl fits in between the flathead driver and scissors without hitting the plier rest tab.

Wave+ questions
Reply #2849 on: July 21, 2021, 08:27:52 PM
I have a wave+, and love it.  Three questions.

1. Is there a way to make holding it more comfortable?  If I'm carving something for more than a few minutes the edges dig into my hand and make it uncomfortable to use.  Is there a workaround for this?
2. Is there a way to make the blade lock stronger? After a year of (ab)use my main blade has a bit of a wobble in it now.
3. Is there a good way to carry one extra bit?  I have a glass breaker bit from a skeletool XR coming, and I'm trying to figure out how to carry it.

THanks!

(So far I reground the main blade, added tweezers, and magnetized the tiny screwdriver for an improvised compass.)
