Coffee is on its way here too.

Let's spend the wait looking at my Zapped*) Free...

*) Equipped with many of ZapWizard's goodies. Qualifies as hacked, methinks...

The titanium scaled one is just something I am toying with. Still has plenty of bugs to work out the Aluminum one has been with me since late 2018

I had both handles of the AL as half tools and decided to buy some titanium scales. Took forever to get them here earlier in the year and even longer for me to take the other one apart and get those scales on. I don't have Ti or Tti pivots so the top pivot is one from the tool end of a Wave and actually to small for the file and knife blade  I either need to fill them in and Redhill or find a TTi pivot  :D The tools on that end (as you know) don't lock and go farther over than what the other end does  I need to find a solution similar to the way you added a piece with your half tool or something along those lines

As I said, lots of bugs to work out but it looks pretty cool 8)

I am running to a similiar problem with the Sidekick knife I am working on. With the Multiforce and Rev knives, I was able to bend the frame on the plier end enough to provide some detent. Enough to make scissors and can openers work okay.

With the Sidekick knife, I am dealing with a missing piece of metal on the plier end. So the tools flop around when installed on that end. I glued in a piece of rubber, which works okay, but I doubt it will hold up very long. I think I am going to try to modify the frame and insert the removeable tool backspring from the other handle. Don't know if I have the ability to make it work  :dunno:

Titanium scales on the unused handle? That makes sense. The titanium Charges on eBay are a wee bit expensive to convert to knives. At least for poor electricians. It may be different for masons. They make the big money  :pok:  :D

I am interested in whatever solution you come up with

Bought the scales rather cheap  or else I would never had afforded them myself :D and I could never make myself take apart a good Charge of any model to make a half knife  :ahhh my original Al had lots of problems and ai had other usable parts that went into it to make it usable :tu:

I hope you come up with a solution and I will see what I can do but I am a bit slow in my progression with this project  :ahhh

This tweak has probably been done to the gills I'm sure. But it's the mod that popped my cherry! Lol First time I've ever taken a grinder to a tool in my life. Didn't feel right posting on this thread again though until I had made some sparks in the garage lol I now have the perfect Crunch companion for the times I don't want to rock the Wave.  :ahhh

It now fits perfectly in the small jeans pocket. It offers the one hand open blade, small pliers, and I'm really digging the easy of access to the bit holder.

It has been done but not sure anyone has done it to a Cx :o :like: This is what the Freestyle should have been  :salute: but it would have taken sells away from the Skeletool series and I am sure they didn't want to do that ;) :D

Great job :salute: :tu: :like:

That's one nice mod, DD, and can agree with Poncho about that that is how the Style should 've been. However, and now that it has been D/C'ed, maybe  Leatherman can do a Skele Lite based like this!?!? :multi:

Thanks gents! Yeah the caribiner always seemed a little outta place. And even with those hammer attachments, it still always had the lipstick on a pig kinda feel. If the idea was minimalist, why add any pointless junk to it? Advertising it specifically for the small jeans pocket would've definitely been the way to go in my humble opinion.

Now flirting with the idea of zapping the Wave. My biggest issue i have with it isn't really tool combination. It's more the width of it. Now that I've been getting more into pocket clips, it just feels too clunky in my pocket. I love the idea someone had on here (not sure who it was, my apologies) about cutting off half the frame and eliminating 2 of the outside tools. Seems like it would seat perfectly after that. If you guys could point me in the right direction of who that was I'd really like to get some feedback on how much they like the tool now. Post mod. So that way I can meter expectations before the hacking begins.

Damn those are sweet Adam! I have a Kick I bought literally for just the pivot. Planned on clipping my crunch one of these days, but those clips are hard to come by. Didn't want to feel like I've wasted a whole tool for a single part so I was considering one of those half tool knives as an option.

Those phillips bits are so damn beefy on those tools. Take up a decent amount of space. Has anyone ever noticed how sleek and sexy the phillips driver is on the Crunch?  And is that standard on any other tools? As the Crunch is the one tool I have that I'll never in my life harm lol

Haha.. It could be.. I cut away one side of the frame and added scales. I carry it on off days sometimes. It's very much like a Curl, but all locking tools. I cut remember where I posted it..

Hey Sam, I loved the idea to thin out the wave. How much work was it actually? And were you happy with the results? Are there any difficulties the mod presents, now that you've used it for a bit?

And thanks for the help btw

From the pics u can see that its not really thin out as some form of scales are still required at the cut side. Cutting is not too difficult. I do most things with just a dremel. It does feel a little lighter but not much different form wise. So far haven have any issue with this mod. If you want thin, Curl ( left) is pretty thin. But the internal tools doesn't lock. And I personally really do not like the pocket clips on the free series.

This is one that I cut down also which I like alot. I love the reduced weight and the form factor while still having a heavy duty tool.

Then sometimes I like to go the opposite. Recently put together.

You are truly a gifted individual my man! Those are some pretty pieces of toolery right there. But I think I found the one I was referring to. You did a couple years back. You referred to it as the skinny wave/ fat sideclip. That thing had my jaw on the floor.

Ohhhh snap! I see what you did now! It wasn't a full wave that you cut the exterior tools off of. You attached a portion of the wave handle to a sideclip. That's genius! I love the easy access the wave offers with the 1 hand open tools. But I don't think I need 4 of them. Feels kinda clunky. But the solution you came up with there is utter perfection. When form meets functionality. Very nicely done!  :hatsoff:

Few months ago I did some cleaning and touching up on it, and some minor changes.

And then there's the " Mini " of course. ... For those that didn't know, the lower part ( tool end ) of the frame was crack so this happened. and no,... there's no fold out handle..  Earlier one that I did, quite rough handy work.. :salute:

I would call that an " OG Charge " if that ever happened .. Older tools always have those kind of warmer feeling, like they were built and assembled with love  :climber:

Daaaaaamn bud! I like the OG leatherman version even better! And I couldn't agree more. I don't own a single older version of these tools, but from what I can gather it seems like they were more about hand feel than these newer ones. Don't get me wrong. I still love all the newer engineering tweaks they've done. It's really impressive. They just seem to be a little less . . . . . . "Soulful" I guess is how I would describe it. They've become less man, and more machine I think.
