Daaaaaamn bud! I like the OG leatherman version even better! And I couldn't agree more. I don't own a single older version of these tools, but from what I can gather it seems like they were more about hand feel than these newer ones. Don't get me wrong. I still love all the newer engineering tweaks they've done. It's really impressive. They just seem to be a little less . . . . . . "Soulful" I guess is how I would describe it. They've become less man, and more machine I think.

Old School has a better feel to me even if some of the newer tools have more options and are fancier :salute: :like:

To that same point, I had to go to Walmart today to get the kid some new winter hats and gloves. Somehow ended up in the tool section (as per usual lol). And ended up walking out with my first real dremel. Nothing crazy. Your basic single speed. But let me tell you, after today, I don't think I'll ever be saying the "W" word ever again haha

When I first ordered the Wave I was ecstatic. Then when it showed up I couldn't wrap my head around why it felt so sharp and boxy. The tool is rounded top to bottom, but all the knives and saws had sharp painful to grip corners and edges on em. Well me and the Dremski saw to that in fine fashion lol the tool feels so much nicer in my hand now, I don't want to put it down lol

Always good to get the sharp edges toned down on a tool :salute: :like:

And congrats on getting a Dremel :tu:

:iagree: you can do wonders with a dremel. My best friend is the dremel 8220, already burned out 2 motors but getting replacement for the motor is really cheap. People used to complain when the Wave+ was released, the thumb cut out was so sharp they cut flesh..

Yeah dude. The damn edges were so sharp on certain parts it had me wondering how the hell they could let it leave the factory like that. Found myself leaving it at home and EDCing a less optimal tool just because it was kinda disappointing to look at, and even more so to hold.

So I spent a good bit of time last night trying to hunt down the exact screw size the kick pocket clip uses. Found close to what I needed but nothing exact. So I went to the garage. In a box given to me by a family friend I found one. This box was 60 years old mind you. And there was 1 single screw in this coffee can that worked perfectly! Lol

It's always good to keep all nuts, bolts & washers - you never know when they might come in handy   :tu:

I mostly remove all potentially useful hardware from anything that is about to be thrown out or recycled, although these days I'm mostly harvesting small diameter self tapping screws.

I do have a substantial "odds & sods" collection (no way would it fit in a single coffee can), sorted by type & approximate size so I don't have to search through too much when I go looking.

Yeah I think I'm 33 now or something close to it, but every day that passes I understand the grandads a little more. And why they do what they do. What was once laughable, is now genius. What was once odd and peculiar, now seems the stuff of wisdom. As a new homeowner, you're thrust into a world where you have 2 options. Pay someone to do it, or start learning and figure it out. If you're not made of money (which I'm not) that's an easy decision. And let me tell you, it's probably the most fun I've ever had.

:tu: Thats the spirit.  There is fun in learning to do things yourself not to mention the satisfaction.  Yeah we save some money as well which is also pretty great.  I enjoy all the modding that goes on here.  I caught the bug a while back and had such a fun time working out all the kinks.  The terrific members here with there support and pictures really helped a lot too.  Now that you have a Dremil theres really no stopping you.

An excellent mod and very similar to the one I have :like: :like:

It amazes me how well the 2 different handles go together :tu: Dremels are for sure an excellent tool to have when modding and have came in handy on a few other projects for me as well :woohoo:

Did you end up with 6 tools on the one side? And if so did you end up having a spacing issue?

I only ended up using like 4 spacers I think. The thing is now a little wider than I had intended. I had a choice to either put the big spacer in (which seemed like a waste) or to add another tool. Thus the awl. But now the locking mechanism is half a hair from popping off as the pins that grab the frame are just a tad too short.

The lock tab will shift from left to right. Itching to pop out. But if I tighten it anymore the tools will clump too much or be too hard to open. I thought about removing some material from the inside bottom of the frame. Might give the tools a tiny bit more breathing room. I'd only need a couple millimeters I think.

Well you're the expert Ponch. I'll defer to your best judgment. What's my issue if you had to guess? Too many spacers? Maybe bent the frame a touch cramming in the tools? Short lock pins? I'm about to start tinkering in a bit. So I'll be trying some different things

Could be to many washers  it has been so long since I did that mod that I forget which ones I left in :dunno:

I will try and check later and see if I can tell which ones have washers and which ones don't  :salute: I do believe I left them out for the shorter/interior tools and just let them clump

Yeah it was my first time ever stacking a tool. Thought the washers were a requirement tbh. Might start dry stacking em from now on and checking the spacing before breaking my stones adding those stinking washers lol

Do you prioritize which tools you place washers between? In retrospect I probably did it completely backwards haha should've fed the pivot bolt through the main blade from the start to guarantee it gets a washer. I did it in reverse. And it's the only tool that DOESN'T have a washer beside it lol

Both long tools need washers to isolate them from the shorter tools and I believe that they may have to have a washer on the outside of the long tools as well

Well dang. I thought I paid pretty close attention to where they were initially. Don't remember seeing them between the long tools and the frame, but looks like I have another long night of washer fiddling ahead of me lol

Gonna tear through the truck toolbox right now. Find some needle nose pliers. Trying to center them with a knife blade was irritating. Didn't even realize they had a D shape until the 3rd one haha

I will have to look. Been a while since I had one apart  :salute:

Also, a paperclip bent straight will also help place tools and washers :tu:

Got a set of these tweezers at the Dollar store like 3 years ago lol they were too thin and cheap to use for any real purpose. That is . . . . . . until today! Where they will serve the REALEST of purposes haha

I found reverse tweezers really good when dealing with the keyed washers and stacking tools.

:iagree: that would probably be the best. The most important thing was actually understanding what I was getting into tonight. And having the proper tools on hand. Only took like 15 minutes this time around lol I just think this particular tool combo is a little wide. I only put washers on the blade tonight. So 1 less than before, and that lock is still dancing a little. But hell with it. Gonna let it ride until it don't ride no more.

Got my OG wave coming in the mail tomorrow. Can't wait to see how the original feels. Gonna be like Ralphie waiting by the mailbox for my decoder ring lol   :mail:

Glad you got it back together and it didn't take as long :woohoo:

The more a person mods the more little tricks they figure put and it gets quicker and more fun as time goes on :tu:

I have a little side to side place in the lock tab but nothing concerning ;) I used that mod above lots when I first made it and have used it quite a bit this month in the Rebar 30 Day challenge and not had any problems :tu:

I think yours will be fine

If I may DD and Poncho; my Knifeless Rebar came from the factory with the lock bar from one of the handles rattling (side to side play), and no amount of chassis tweaking helped so, maybe this is because of factory/manufacturing tolerances. Has not hinder its perfomance a bit and this particular tool gets  used regularly (although sometimes the play drives my OCD off the wall !!).

Like you said, "let it ride until it don't ride no more"!

Glad its working satisfactorily, and hope you enjoy your OE Wave; Happy Holidays!

BTW, I too have those dollar store tweezers set, and the reverse ones are the best for the anti clumping washers: enough pressure to hold them, and flexy enough as not to mar the surface or have them shoot across the room!

Happy Holidays to everyone.
