If I may DD and Poncho; my Knifeless Rebar came from the factory with the lock bar from one of the handles rattling (side to side play), and no amount of chassis tweaking helped so, maybe this is because of factory/manufacturing tolerances. Has not hinder its perfomance a bit and this particular tool gets  used regularly (although sometimes the play drives my OCD off the wall !!).

Like you said, "let it ride until it don't ride no more"!

Glad its working satisfactorily, and hope you enjoy your OE Wave; Happy Holidays!

BTW, I too have those dollar store tweezers set, and the reverse ones are the best for the anti clumping washers: enough pressure to hold them, and flexy enough as not to mar the surface or have them shoot across the room!

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Yeah it's working good. Only have it down to 2 washers now. I broke it down earlier, and gave the little tabs the lock holds onto a tiny twist. It's helped a little. I don't see it being an issue. Just have similar OCD issues lol

I'm sure if it's possible someone HAS to have done this before. I'm really digging the WaveBar combo. But is the big brother version possible? The Surge/Supertool 300 half n half

SuperSurge  :like:

IIRC the pliers on both are identical so that should work in theory. Would love to see one tried out :woohoo:
Cheers!

EXACTLY! As soon as I said SuperSurge in my head I was thinking "there's no way that couldn't have been done". Just on sheer principle lol

I guess the pickle you'd find yourself in is which surge handle do you take? As each one has a unique tool. Do you take the T-shank? Undeniably one of the most versatile additions ever added to a MT in my opinion. Or the best scissors ever put on a multitool? Because if the locking mechanism is identical to the wave I don't think you can have both.

Well dang. I thought I paid pretty close attention to where they were initially. Don't remember seeing them between the long tools and the frame

If I remember correctly, in the Rebar there are washers between the long tools and the short tools, but only the file has a washer on the outside as well (although it's been a while since I took one apart so I may be wrong).

That is correct but if you add scissors you kinda have to leave some of them out

Put some work in last night on the Frankentool. Dropped the can opener. Replaced it with a long medium flathead after taking some meat off it and also trimming the pliers rest. Dropped the awl as I've never used one in my life. Then took a rebar 3D phillips driver and trimmed all the side fat off to make it fit more easily with the other internal implements. Also have a fuse lock on order to potentially increase the number of tools that can be crammed into the rebar leg.

Yeah I don't think I've ever actually used a multitool for any real cranking with a lot of torque. It's always just been about convenience. If I really have to lay the strong arm on something I go get the real tool. I have a 1 year old so there's a lot of recessed screws on toys I contend with that the 2d bits can't quite reach. And as I didn't have any old PST drivers or any thinner compatible ones lying around I just said hell with it. Let the hacking begin lol

Made one a while back.
Started with the t-shank Surge side and Surge scissors in the ST3 side.
Eventually missed my ST3 too much so swapped that side out for a Core handle.

Yeah that's kinda where I'm at with the wave/rebar Half n half. As soon as you drop down to 5 tools in the rebar Half it's almost like what are you gaining other than smaller serated and saw. The thing I do like is the weight factor. I feel it's noticeably lighter and feels a little more compact. So I'm gonna roll with it for the time being.

You know of a way to put both wave blades on the same handle and not having the serated blade wobbling? I miss my long wave serated blade. I could live with losing the diamond file if it meant getting my big cutter back.

Have used a gas torch and hammer before, first time was a bit messy but the second looked a lot better.

If I needed it to look super clean I would try JB Weld or something similar.
You could build up the blade where the liner engages or the back stop area just behind the jimping.

Or you could cut/bend/build up where the handle stops the blade so it engages earlier.
And then there is bushing the pivot hole and drilling another just forward slightly.

Yeah I like idea of just building up the backstop a tiny bit. But just wanted to use something strong enough that it wouldn't break with a little pressure added. Metal work is not something I have experience with. Wood working sure. Metal is gonna be the frontier I'll find myself venturing into in the next couple years I imagine.

Thanks for the advice

This slim wave mod was done a while back. Some more tinkering since its the week end.

Added ST plain blade, sanded out the groove on the lock tab, milled down a set of wave screws for aesthetic.

Yeah man! That's some pretty stuff right there. BTW my OG Wave finally arrived a week or so ago. Fell in love immediately. Felt so much more compact and streamlined. A lot less clunky. And then . . . . . (queue up horror movie score)

I realized that is was suffering the very common loose handles problem they seem to have. Broke my heart. I then set out to fix the issue. Had to order the damn specialty drivers required to take it apart. And I tried tightening up the handles to grip the plier head better. I used the vise method from previous threads. It worked for a little. Then the rattling started again. On the second attempt to tighten it I heard the sound. The sound I've only heard others on here speak of. The ever dreaded *CHINK*. Boom broken handle lol gonna see if leatherman will swap it out for a freshy. If not I'll prolly end up gutting the tools for other salvaging projects. Lesson learned lol

Happy modding New Year all
