Yeah man! That's some pretty stuff right there. BTW my OG Wave finally arrived a week or so ago. Fell in love immediately. Felt so much more compact and streamlined. A lot less clunky. And then . . . . . (queue up horror movie score)

I realized that is was suffering the very common loose handles problem they seem to have. Broke my heart. I then set out to fix the issue. Had to order the damn specialty drivers required to take it apart. And I tried tightening up the handles to grip the plier head better. I used the vise method from previous threads. It worked for a little. Then the rattling started again. On the second attempt to tighten it I heard the sound. The sound I've only heard others on here speak of. The ever dreaded *CHINK*. Boom broken handle lol gonna see if leatherman will swap it out for a freshy. If not I'll prolly end up gutting the tools for other salvaging projects. Lesson learned lol

Happy modding New Year all

Sorry to hear about the OG Wave :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Leatherman probably won't have the stuff to fix it but you never know  if not I hope you can salvage for parts :salute:

Yeah I've read because it's such a common problem with the original wave that they usually just swap it out for a new wave, and don't even muddle with it. And if not, no big deal, it's only a hairline crack. Some JB weld would probably solve it. And I also think I know what causes the wobble issue. Was gonna fix it up proper but decided to give the vise trick one more go. But that's what I get for taking shortcuts lol

This actually happens quite often when messing with the tightness of the handle. I have zero experience with JB weld but I doubt it will hold. That part that broke handles alot of pressure when using the pliers. The OG waves there are 2 versions. The newer ones have spring behind the pliers, that helps alot with the wobble and looseness.

Yeah I figured worst case I end up with some decent parts. I think the main issue stems from the fact that the plier pivots are rounded at the bottom. Rounded and pressed up against the flat inside of the handle. I'm no machinist but that seems like an obvious oversight in design. Flat plier pivots give you greater support against lateral twisting I'd imagine

Nice! Is the width similar to the wave? Because I was considering a wave halfie not that long ago

I've been really loving the Rebar lately. Been my edc for a bit now. Love the ease of carry. Just had to make a few adjustments. Here's the loadout I've been running with it. Thinking about trimming up a  wave diamond file to replace the saw. Don't think I'll ever have a need for those tiny saws.

And credit to the genius (whoever it may be) that I stole the flat driver as a chisel idea off of. Was just filing down the top of a door the other day to fit the jam proper. That thing worked perfect for taking a little meat off the inside. Saved me a trip out to the garage lol

It is similar but smaller, I have found that a half Wave is not as comfortable in hand and seems a bit to tiny to me  others have made them and seem happy with them, so it depends on preference  :tu:

What's the cool little keychain hanging on the lanyard?

Keysmart nano clip. They're pretty sweet. I use em for all types of stuff. I actually prefer them the pocket clips these days. Where a pocket clip on a multitool can sometimes have the tool riding high being squeezed tightly by the jeans pocket seam. These guys grip the pocket seam and allow the tool to drop down into the pocket where there's a lot more room. The tool stays vertical without bouncing around, and still remains easy to access.

Lol it's funny you say that. I have like 3 black ones. After typing that post I ordered a 3 pack of the stainless steel ones yo match my multis lol they're like 43% off or something like that for the 3 pack. And they're already pretty cheap

Being that I work in manufacturing a pocket tool will always come in handy. As I often play the roll of operator and mechanic if need be. The problem is that I produce adhesives and prepolymers. So really sticky, hazardous, nasty stuff. And it gets on EVERYTHING! Everything is constantly stuck, locked, and frozen.

I would never bring one of my prized Leathermans in there out of fear of it being destroyed by chemicals beyond repair (as most of my harbor freight tools often are). So I gathered up the battered and broken parts I've had in my box for a bit now, and assembled something that I think may just work out.

I give you the S.H.I.T. Kicker

Kick frame
Blunted rebar pliers
And that 60 year old coffee can screw I found is holding my pry bar for freeing up locked up cam-lock ears

Lol tried it. Little snug on the pocket. The kick frame is pretty light though. Shouldn't notice it banging around too much. I mostly run around with a tool pouch with channy locks, prybars, and a few other goodies. But there are the times I put it down to do some running around, and wanna kick myself in the ass when I need something out of it when I'm halfway across the plant. It's like going to pull your gun and the holster is empty lol

You mentioned dealing with nasty chemicals at work. Are any of these chemicals solvents and/or corrosive? In an environment like that, I would be worried about the Kick's plastic handle inserts.

Let us know how your S.H.I.T. Kicker works out!

I appreciate the lookout. But it's mainly gonna be a pocket backup for mostly exterior drum type stuff. Straps, bung cap seals, wrap, and the occasional loose forklift screw. Little prying here and there. But nothing too crazy. I have big tools for the big nasty stuff. I also scooped one of those Bibury 19 in 1 wave clones for 12 bucks when they had a flash sale a couple weeks ago. So if any tool is gonna get the gunk it'll be that cheap Chinese rubbish lol

So it's official. Every leatherman I now own is modded with the exception of the crunch lol you guys got me. Hook, line, and sinker lol

I now chuckle a bit when I hear people say "my tool is almost perfect, except for the [name the tool] is missing". I almost wanna yell "THEN ADD IT YOU CHOOCH!" Then I have to take a step back and realize that I WAS that warranty weary chooch not that long ago lol

Thanks again gents. I feel liberated
