This question is probably pretty obvious but I'm gonna ask it anyway...the Rebar won't accept ST300 tools, right?

Assuming that the Rebar pivot is too small and the lock notches won't line up?

They have the same pivot diameter on the tool end but different pivot ends for the tools and you would have to grind on the ST300 tools to fit a Rebar and them lock but the tools of a Rebar will fit as is on a ST300 but won't lock

What type of mod did you have in mind

Just trying to figure out what to do with my Rebar. I suppose there are comparable tools from other models I could use, I was just thinking about trying to make a smaller version of my modded ST300. I'm torn on the size, I like the ST300 in use but prefer the smaller carry size of the Rebar, even carrying both on my belt. The other advantage of the ST300 (and one of the biggest reasons I used it as a platform) is that longer MT's can just hold longer tools which for me make things like saws and files way more usable.

Got ya  I :like: both of them as well and use to use both of them way more but I have been in a rut more the last couple years and mostly carried a Charge or Wave for work :salute:

Ok what does everyone think of this mod. I carried this PST for 25 years and am trying to bring it up to speed so I can return it to my edc. Having a "3D" Phillips (this one is borrowed  from a Rebar) gives me the ability to use the bit adapter, and...well you see what that just did to the old PST.

Yes, it goes past center but I don't know what can be done about that. Still need to get a saw in there somehow too (and keep a file). I'll never get past how light and compact this MT is, which is my motivation for trying to make it as perfect as possible (for my purposes).

Nice mod :tu: I do love the bit adapter and it's bit kit  :like: You might want to look at a LM Bond :salute: it has a very similar toolset and it is lightweight as well

It still wouldn't have the saw that you are after though :ahhh

Thanks Poncho

I've had a Rebar saw in this but I use the file a lot, so if I could find one like the Crunch has that would be great. It would allow me to keep a large screwdriver and still have a file. (The one from the Crunch doesn't work, I tried it.) The Rebar saw does the same thing as the screwdriver swap; opens past center but it's not terrible.

I haven't test driven a Bond but I'm willing to bet it's wider, thicker, heavier, etc compared to a PST. If I'm wrong it might be something to check out!

After I put everything back together so I could mess around here at camp, I discovered that the bit adapter works pretty good on the medium screwdriver so a mod really isn't necessary in the first place.

Oh well, it kept me out of trouble for the afternoon.

That Phillips a stronger in use for the adapter :salute: you have the possibility to bend the flat driver, so it is a good tradeoff :tu:

Almost finished with my ideal daily tool, nothing extraordinary but I’m happy with the outcome. Removed Phillips driver and installed bit driver then upgraded pliers from a donor Rebar. I also plan on replacing the lanyard loop and odd spacer next to it when I decide on what type of file I’d like in its place.
I’ve always enjoyed the look of the Zytel tools and finally got around to modding this one into something that suits me.

Looks great Bill and I agree with you on the zytel tools.  I think a bit driver should be standard on multi tools these days given the variety of screw there are.

Nice bit of modding, Bill :salute: :like: I always loved the Zytel line as well  if you can get a diamond file from a PST II or Pulse then I would suggest that :salute: if not, a Rebar file will go in just fine

I.love the Rebar file.  It's one of the few files I've actually used on a multi tool and it does a great job!

What a great thread, loads of ideas and ingenious solutions :salute:
This is a mod that hardly measures up on here but it's something that irked me aesthetically and from a packaging pov.

I wanted my curl to emulate the old skool self contained silhouette original wave type dealio. If you get me
The original wave blades pivot hole was widened with a carbide burr, the wee nipple on the tang ground flat and a slight rounding of a corner was required to clear the frame when opening. The frame and blade lock are magically already orientated to provide wobble free lock up.
I brought the hump over the blades opening hole down to bring the blade entirely within the frame and likewise the original curl file (bar the stop which must remain).

My ocd is satisfied :drink:

Obviously this doesn't improve the tool but visually it shrinks it down in size remarkably, it's all in its confines now and it's imo how it should have come instead of spilling out of its frame . Yes I'm probably on the spectrum but I'm happy

Thanks McStitchy :)
I wasn't going to post it up as its really just me scratching my own itch, but hey maybe others feel the same way about it too.
The wave blade fits great and the kick that's there just clears the edge from fowling the bottom of the well.
I can't attest to a fuller blade though as mine is old and has been sharpened a fair bit so is missing a little meat. In other knives that suffer blade rap I peen the kick proud to give a little lift the edge. That would work here.

Scratching your own itch is basically what I call modding ;)

A user builds or modifies something more to their liking and/or something to meet their specific needs :salute:

Great idea making the Curl blade more closely resemble the OG blade profile  :tu: :like:

Cheers Poncho :iagree:
For all the bad press the curl gets I like the slimmer size and weight which means I'm more likely going to pocket it. Having it more like my pst/og wave in shape makes that experience better.

I have been wanting to make a "Half Charge" like Poncho and many others, but I haven't yet come across a Charge that I am willing to disassemble.  Today while scavenging scissors from a Wingman, I decided to make a Half Wingman for fun.  Now that I have, I have a question for all of you Half Charge owners.  Do you just leave the spot that used to contain the pliers empty?  It seems like a huge area to just leave open.

Here's my Half Wingman.  It looks perfect from the side -

Viewed from the bottom , not so much  :td:

Great mod,  Rich :woohoo: :like: :like:

Mine is filled in the Ti one with a glass breaker now  The G10 one doesn't have anything but I do have another one now  and it came from Adam after purchase of a few things :woohoo: It has a can opener, a large flat driver and a spacer that lock up like a slip joint in the plier springs

I don't feel as though it is wasted space though because it does allow for me to use the long flat bit from a MUT :salute:

You can add things to the half Wingman without having to drill the pivot out bigger though because both ends have the same size pivot :woohoo: they may not be exactly straight when they click into place though ;) the pivot of a Wave or Charge has a bigger pivot and you have to enlarge the hole of individual tools though :tu:
