[CLOSED] BADLY NEEDED: Victorinox 84mm backspring
on: April 05, 2014, 11:15:54 AM
As per the title, Badly needed one of the backsprings for an older 84mm Armee Suisse tang stamp and exposed pins model.

Check the pics, please and you will see where is a problem...it's broken and unusable.  :(

I'm wiling to pay or trade something for such spring...

Could anybody help me out?

Thank you so much.

So here it is:

I'm not 100% sure of this, but possibly the same spring in 91mm size could be shortened to fit with a Dremel or grinder?? Either way I don't, unfortunately, have a spare.
I put a request out for similar vintage blades and a scissor spring a few months ago. They must be in very short supply, and I got no replies.

Will a backspring from a usual cellidor 84 mm knife do? what layer backspring do you need?

It comes to my mind something similar what you suggest with some 84mm Victoria backsprings but unfortunately without any success. They are totally different.

Hey lowtech, nice to here you again.  :)
You mean newer model 84mm cellidor? I don't now if that fits, really. It will help if you have some picture of such spring?
It's a big blade, small blade, corkscrew layer...
As I already said, I was try with Victoria 84mm backsprings and they are the same length but the holes are totally of center and as I can tell it's not possible to do anything with them...to cut them, remodel or anything else.

Let me look in my parts bin. I might have one that will work. Can you give me a thickness measure??

It will be tremendous success if you can find one, Steve...  :)

On the narrow side thickness will be 2,1 mm (left side of the spring on my picture below) and on the thicker side 3.1 mm (right side on my picture below)...

If you need some more close ups pictures from different angles I will post them.

Thanks.

I have one that is very close

It's older but not as old as that one. The width is dead on at 2.5mm

Yes, that is very similar and I think that one is from Victoria tang stamp period (late 60'- early 70')... I was try similar one but without any success.
Maybe this one will fit but I'm not 100% sure of that.

I have no spring at the moment but I will be tearing apart soem 84 mm Cellidor knifes to make a 3 layer for myself. Some springs will be leftover - But they are all from modern 84mm vics. I´ll have a look at the shapes anyways, but don´t have too high hopes.

OK, no problem but feel free to tell me if you find similar one.
Thanks.

It crossed my mind but unfortunately, I don't have all necessary tools to do that and my crafting skills aren't so good for such task.  :(

You could try asking Syph007, he makes his own springs for his alox mods.

What a great choice of 84mm springs you have there, but unfortunately it's not there...
Now I'm starting to think that apparently I will never find this one... :(
Thank you very much for the picture and everything else Giga.

Yes, yes...that should be it, it's exactly the same period. It's a big blade, small blade, corkscrew layer spring.  :)

Giga, this is yours 84mm knife? What are you going to do with it?
Are you going to take it a part, it's a donor knife or...?

Thanks.

My knife. I was going to mod it with modern parts. I have been saying that for 6 months.

6 months!? Well, it's never too late...  :)

So you don't need those springs or...?
Do you want to sell me the spring? Can we make some arrangement, whats the plan? ...if there is some plan. :)

I wish there was a way we could guarantee it is the correct spring, before I take it a part. I was in no hurry to mod it, but if it could help someone else I might be inclined to do it sooner than later. Let me measure the tangs after work and make sure it is the correct thickness first. Your knife has good blades?

It will be very difficult to measure them precisely in millimeter while the spring is still in the knife but as I understand you if you have intention to take a part this knife anyway, then it should be much easier to measure the tangs when the spring is free.
Yes, everything else is just fine, only the spring is what I need.
I'm almost 100% sure this is the one. It's from the same period and 84mm frame so...but if you can you should measure it first, of course.

It looks like 2.5mm for the main blade and 3.3mm for the small blade.

2.5mm on both ends. The birdseye and small blade are thinner.
