Anyone used an SOG Revolver Seal?

I stumbled across this one a few weeks ago but then forgot who made it!

Today I Googled until I found it and it seems like a good candidate for a general emergency knife/saw for a reasonable price. Seems like this model is a budget re-do of another model. Anyone actually used one?

Never used one of these. No idea how good they are.

I have never handled this kind of knife (There are some hunting knives with of this type, too), but I always wondered how good the lock is.
I would not want to have blade closing on me while I am impaled by a saw

I did find a post somewhere by the designer (Rob Robertson I think) who described the way the knife and saw swap and it sounded as safe as any other. The way the sharp sides are cut when you apply pressure to one or the other IF the locks give out (there is a backup) the side that would go to your fingers on the bottom of the handle is always the back of the blade/saw.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for gimmicks, but I like the look of it. There were some negative comments about the nylon sheath, the original one was formed plastic I think.

Here in Florida, having a usable saw like that could be handy. Otherwise a machete is the norm.

My buddy got one eons ago when they first came out. Played with it a bit. No real use, but in handling it seemed like it should work fairly well all things considered. I wouldn't go batoning with it, but for most chores should be fine. Granted, this was before SOG build quality took a swan dive off the nearest cliff.

You are right, if you cut with the edge, the blade gets pushed upwards, so the saw is pushed downwards. I kinda flipped this in my head

And the lock has a lot more torque due to the longer arm towards the hole, compared to regular liner-/frame-back-locks which 'grip' the blade pretty near to the axis.

I would definitely be interested in some pictures of the locking mechanism, if you get such a knife (and between us, I find the orange Hunter version way prettier

)

I did see this opinion mentioned a few times in my review search. Never owned any SOG products so I guess I'll judge if I decide to go with this one.

Like most other stuff, I don't absolutely need it but that never stopped me before!

The lock is just a solid pin going through the hole in blade. The hole is oversized to make the action smoother so the blade has some play which I found annoying. Also the handle is quite long due to having to conceal a blade inside. Oh and the saw is quite thick, not ideal since you have to remove more wood, a thinner blade like pruning saw works a lot better.

I had the original aus8 one, for utility it's good, with above mentioned shortcomings, but I guess it's just not tactical enough to get a following and the price was pretty high, about $80.

Never handled the new cheaper one though, but for less than $30 I'd give it a try.

But then again, I'd prefer a fixed blade and a $9 pruning saw over a revolver.

A bit late, but I have one of the new Fusion line revolvers. Same locking mechanism if you're still interested in seeing a close up of the way it works. It really does feel like a solid system and I'm not too worried about it failing.

Stumbled onto this while looking for a review on here of one. It looks as though it hasn't happened yet. Any interest in me doing as thorough a review as I can?
