SAK Mod Newb, brass rod?
on: March 25, 2014, 03:15:16 PM
Hey guys.

I need some brass rod for modding SAKs but have NO idea what size and quantity they come in.

Any one know/can sell some to me?

I am also up for a trade, got lots!

Here's a primer for you

58mm
-all pins 1/16th inch

84mm
-all pins 2.2mm.

91mm
- 2 pins 2.2 mm
- 2 pins 2.5 mm

93mm (alox)
- middle pin 2.5 mm
- 2 pins 3.0 mm

1/16th inch, easily found online or hobby stores

2.2 mm Only available from UK or non north american sources

2.5 mm K&S Engineering makes it.

3.0 mm K&S Engineering makes it.

If you're modding the common plastic SAKs, the 2.2 mm pins are for the center 2 which are less critical than the end ones.  I would just sand down some 2.5mm.  You could also hit up one of our euro breathren to hook you up with some 2.2mm from across the pond.

Cheers

would it be easier to sand down 3/32" brass rod than the 2.5mm?  3/32" is only .181249 mm larger than the 2.2mm
If I can help, let me know

Oh good point ya.  I just was meaning if you only buy 2.5mm you can use it for both, but ya 3/32 would be faster for sure.  :D

I wonder if it would work unmodified since the tolerance on those pins is pretty large.

Nope tried it. Too big, but it did sand down nice.
