Tron - SAK Cyber Champion Mod
on: July 06, 2016, 02:45:22 AM
So, I liked the idea of the Champion. A Swiss Champ without pliers? Sounds good to me.

Then I got thinking. What if it had the Cyber Tool bit driver layer instead of the philips/mag glass?

I need Robertson bits on a regular basis (light duty) and this is what usually prevents me from carrying just a SAK. Since I had already found 4mm Robertson #1 and #2 bits in a bit set at my local hardware store, adding them to my Cyber Tool equipped SAKs was a no-brainer. I just added a small piece of metal duct tape to the bit to improve retention and I was set.

Now all I needed to do was build the SAK.

So I grabbed my donors, tools and a brew and got to work building my latest mod. Everything went fairly smoothly as I've got a number of these under my belt now (some documented here on the forum).

As usual, I managed to cut myself while building it. This is a theme for every SAK I've built. They bite me somehow during deconstruction/reconstruction. It's never with the blade, usually a liner edge.

After finishing the construction, I needed to come up with a name. Every good mod has one.

Sometimes it's easy to decide as it's an existing model or tweak to one. That was kind of the case here. Champion with Cyber Tool layer, Cyber Champion. Done, right? Not quite.

As I sat pondering what scales to give the creation, I remembered a character from a movie of the same name: Tron. He's a Cyber Champion who fights for the user. Now I had the perfect name!

Tron the Cyber Champion!

The only thing I would like to add would be a blue plus back scale. Then the colors would match the movie. Alas, I do not have any blue plus scales in  my inventory for now. So as it stands, he is dressed in black.

That is a great-looking knife. That is the knife I would carry if I had any skill at all at modding SAKs.

Ct41 has pliers, Toolslinger's Cyber Champ doesn't.  Easy mod to do though, poncho. :pok:

It's an easy mod. Get a CT41 donor and do a reduction mod to remove the pliers.

There is enough pin stock in a 41 that you can do the whole mod without needing to get brass for pins (if you are careful removing the original ones).

Then you'd have a CT38. ;)
