Trip To Bastogne "battle of the Bulge" April 2014

Went back to the Ardennes yesterday, first we (me, my wife and my two boys) visited the new "Bastogne War museum", and the "American Memorial on Mardasson Hill" which is located right next to the museum.

Here are some pics (sadly, no pics from inside the museum, flashes are not allowed and taking pics inside a museum without a flash is far from ideal... I took 2 pics of a pocket knife in a display, I'll post these here in the near future).

P.S.: I also have some pics of my ST300 at these next locations, but I will post those in the "SAKs in public places (or other multitools)" topic.

Later that day we went to "Bois Jacques" (Jack's forest) where the boys from Easy Company dug their foxholes in that cold december back in '44.  Those of you who saw the "Band of brothers" series will definitely know what I'm talking about.  I've been there a couple of times now, but every time it takes my breath away, the "feel" of this place, and the foxholes which are still visible get me every time ...

My boys were quite impressed by the whole thing ...




And at the end of the day we paid a visit to the "German military cemetery at Recogne", a lot of brave young men died in "the battle of the Bulge", on both sides ...

Absolutely.  Thank you for sharing those pictures with us.  My great-uncle (grandmother's brother) was at Bastogne with the 502 PIR, and was also a Normandy and Market Garden veteran.  Before he died he did go back to Europe to visit the sites he fought at.

I had a great uncle also who fought in WWII. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and a couple of other engagements.
The pics are just Wow and at the sametime, very sad.
