How could I resist
on: June 10, 2008, 01:38:05 AM
First, the basics, I am a college Sophomore majoring in theatre arts with an emphasis on lighting. Hometown is Detroit, Michigan (another Michigander!), but I go to school in Wisconsin. I don't have the biggest multi-tool collection, but it did grow from one to three just last week. Currently, I own a Blast, an Electrician's Bear Jaws, and some no-name c-wrench multi. I've lurked enough to see this is an active board, and I can't wait to join in the discussion.

Good to have you!  Are you studying cheese?  Cause that's about all there is to Wisconsin, isn't it? :P

I was down there for SummerFest a while back... great place!

Looks like you are well on your way to a good collection so far at any rate.  Don't worry too much about the cheapie though- we all have one or two (or ten!) lurking in our collections somewhere!

Just if you were wondering, gafftapegreenia is my handle on a tech theatre forum where I basically spend all of my internet time. Gaffers tape is superior to duct tape. As a theatre tech, I am proud to say I am a nerd when it comes to my tools.

I've been a "multi-tool man" for a year now. I bought the Blast right after graduation. I was comparing mutli-tools, and the Blast seemed like a fine choice. I really really like the Blast. Friends keep trying to convert me to Gerber by telling me the Diesel is a great tool. If anything I'll get a SOG Powerlock. I've been wanting the PowerCut, but it keeps getting delayed.

Don't let all those Vic lovers scare ya off..  There's also a lot of normal people around here :D

And the part about Swisstools and Spirits blowing gerbers out of the basement.  That is a lot closer to myth than reality. IMO :pok:

Gaffers tape is superior to duct tape.

Don't let member DuckTapeHero hear you say that!  :D ;)

(I agree with you--I use gaffer's tape for everything!)

Well as much as I love multi's I'm thinking of doing a round of building up my dedicated tools. There's all sorts of Klein and Channellock tools I'd like to add to my kit. Might even consider another power tool, such as a DeWalt jig saw or circular saw.

You mentioned that you have a LM blast,I also picked up one last week, and last month I got a Vic.Spirit for fathers day,I like both, but am now carrying the blast as a EDC,I like the size and tools better, sorry UK mates, but its to hard for me to get the tools out of my Vic.

So, I'm not allowed single purpose tools? I'd hardly call a wire stripper single purpose. Or linesman pliers. Sure, they don't have a knife that folds out, but they do a lot more than just one thing. Stranger items have been called multi's in the past. And remember, I might not have a pair of pliers, but I ALWAYS have a Leatherman.

Smitty, good to hear you're liking the Blast.

Hey I did a search on Klein, and saw plenty of comments about their other tools. So, clearly some people are not following taboo. ;)
