Swisstools in the Military
on: June 11, 2008, 07:54:21 PM
I was just wondering what anyone knows about the military using Swisstools . I know Switzerland uses the Std Swisstool 3.0323.N . Australia ( which also has a Nato Number stamped on it )  and Norway uses the Std Swisstool 3.0323.3N and Holland uses the Spirit S 3.0223.3N

Now heres my theory and I need a little help , Looking at the Vic codes the ones that end in 3N I believe are black oxide with nylon sheath . So a normal std Swisstool is 3.0323.N and a black oxide must be 3.0323.3N  . The N stands for nylon sheath .

Am I right on this and anyone get any further info ?

I've seen pics of the Swisstool with a cap crimper but I'm sure they never went into production ( if they did it was very small ) .In fact they hardly get mentioned  :( I wonder if anyones got one ?  Bob  :pok:
Note there is no red Swisstool label .

Thats something to consider  Although thats a genuine Vic pic it may not have even gone into production and that could be a computer mock up .

I'm not so sure, the lack of a logo can be explained. Why would they go to the trouble of putting the tool through another process (the logo application) when it was destined to be a prototype? It doesn't make financial sense and the logo does nothing to the integrity of the tool so to test the principle its not needed. I do however think the background may not be the original background it doesn't seem to have the same lighting on it. The reflection of the file on the knife would also be hard to achieve (not impossible though) with photoshop. It would also be probably just as cheap for them to stick a plier head in the milling machine as to pay someone to come up with the photoshopped version. Also i think Vic are the sort of company to give these things a try in the real world to see how it affects the strength.

my rambling thoughts anyway :)

I agree it doesn't look "right" but i think that might be because the background has been replaced, the camo doesn't interact with the light in the same way the tool does. At least thats what it looks like to me :-\

it seems its been painted almost white, maybe to cover reflections, the whole tool almost is painted over orig.pic, and its been goin thru some"sharpen" actions too,by lookin at the roundings of tools, and the pic has been sent to net,and in that transmission its been compressed, and that really affects the pics.and look at some digits, especially digits 7 an5,theyre done with hand/paintbrush too....i think.

My perosnal opinion is that it looks like a prototype. Whether it was ever produced your guess is better than mine. It looks like it has been touched up a bit and is certainly not its photographed background but I don't think its been purposely photshoped to make it have a crimper.

(And by the way Dunc, I've never found one available for sale) :(

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

So, I guess the pics are only prototypes... Maybe they will go into production eventually!
